Tottenham: Sky Journalist Shares Important Pochettino News

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has shared an update on Tottenham Hotspur's chances of re-hiring former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Could Pochettino re-join Spurs?

The Argentine has been heavily linked with a move back to Spurs, even before the club mutually agreed to part company with Antonio Conte earlier this week. The Premier League top four hopefuls are believed to be interested in re-uniting with Pochettino, coming nearly four years after he was originally sacked by chairman Daniel Levy.

Indeed, the former Paris-Saint Germain boss is believed to among the main contenders to take over at Tottenham, alongside the likes of Julian Nagelsmann, who was recently fired by Bayern Munich, and ex-Spain coach Luis Enrique.

Those are just the candidates out-of-work and reports suggest that the north Londoners could also move for another free agent in former Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane. Pochettino, however, stands out as a very interesting link given both his affinity for the club and popularity with Spurs supporters.

Sections of the Lilywhites fan base have been pictured singing his name as they call for Pochettino's sensational return to Tottenham, with Sky journalist Dharmesh Sheth now sharing what he knows on the matter. Sheth says that the 51-year-old will wait until the summer to make a decision, especially with Real Madrid linked.

He explained to GiveMeSport:

“Pochettino has been approached by Real Madrid twice before, once when he was with Tottenham and once with Paris-Saint Germain.

"But because he was under contract at both clubs, he couldn't even talk to Real Madrid officially and take on that job.

"This time, he's in a position where he's not in a job and probably why he wants to take his time. He's taken his time to get back into football since losing his job at PSG.

"I wonder whether he'll wait until the summer – because that's the information we're getting now – to see if it's not just Tottenham who would be interested in him and whether Real Madrid would come back in."

Should Tottenham re-hire Poch?

Called a 'genius' by former Spurs players, it is no secret that Pochettino is a popular figure in north London – especially after his work on a shoe-string budget and guiding them to a Champions League final in 2019.

The former Southampton boss also has a league title under his belt from his time at PSG, potentially growing as a coach in the process.

While there could be some reservations around going backwards so to speak, there are few other managers in world football who know Spurs as much as Pochettino and his status as a free agent makes this move a very attractive one for Levy.

Man United Monitoring "Extraordinary" £44m Centre-Back

Manchester United are one of the clubs that are showing an interest in the Napoli centre-back Kim Min-jae ahead of the summer transfer window.

Could Kim Min-jae leave Napoli this summer?

The South Korean centre-back has made quite an impression in Serie A having only arrived at Napoli in during the last summer transfer window.

However, he has caught the attention of interested clubs in doing so as the 26-year-old looks set to help Napoli to the Italian crown.

It is believed the defender has a release clause of around €50m (£44m) in his current deal with the Serie A side which will be valid for a few days in July.

However, speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has claimed the South Korean has been offered a new contract to remain at Napoli:

(3:30) "It's true that there's a release clause. I already told you that the close is a bit less than €50m (£44m) and it's going to be valid for a few days in July this summer.

"So there is the possibility to trigger the clause and sign Kim Min-jae. What's the point? That is the player also who has to decide and also Napoli have tried to offer him a new contract to keep the player.

"So Man United among many clubs are monitoring Kim Min-jae but Napoli have to make a decision and they are pushing to extend his contract and change his clause situation."

Would Kim Min-jae improve United?

Considering Erik ten Hag's side are currently third in the table, their defensive record has left a lot to be desired this season having conceded 35 goals already.

Of course, seven of those goals came in the capitulation at Anfield, however, they have now allowed in 16 more than the likes of Newcastle United.

In comparison, Napoli have conceded just 16 goals in 27 league games in which Kim has played a huge role in this season.

Raphael Varane has partnered Lisandro Martinez in Erik ten Hag's defence this season with the latter having only signed for the Red Devils in the summer.

However, he has made an instant impression at Old Trafford and has made 24 appearances in the Premier League alone this season.

Former United midfielder, Park Ji-sung has not held back in his praise of his fellow countryman by labelling him "extraordinary" amid his success in Serie A.

And it is easy to see why when the South Korean has played such a big part in Napoli's side having averaged over 90 touches per game and registering over 70 passes per game (via FBref).

Perhaps more impressively for United, the South Korean has provided more tackles and won more aerial duels per game than Varane has under Ten Hag (via FBref).

The Korean appears to be a real talent, however, he has openly spoken of his thoughts on the transfer rumours linking him with a potential exit from Napoli: “I can't be bothered by transfer rumours because they aren’t true.”

Liverpool Eye Move For £3k-per-week Sensation

Liverpool are set to lose Roberto Firmino at the end of the season. Indeed, with his contract expiring in the coming months, the Brazilian has decided to leave the Anfield side in order to seek a new challenge.

Jurgen Klopp didn’t sign the 31-year-old, but he has managed to get the best out of the forward that has played an integral role in the Reds sweeping all before them between 2019 and 2022, enjoying their finest era since the 70s and 80s.

With Sadio Mane having left the club last year, by the time next season begins, Klopp will only have Mohamed Salah left as the final member of that excellent triumvirate, and he will now be looking to secure a replacement for Firmino during the upcoming transfer market.

He may have already found his heir, with 90min claiming that the Reds are eyeing up a move for Brighton and Hove Albion prodigy Evan Ferguson following his breakthrough this term.

Could Ferguson replace Firmino at Liverpool?

Considering Liverpool have scouted the player, as stated by the report, there is a chance the Anfield side take things further in the coming months, with Klopp’s penchant for developing young talent potentially key in any future decision.

The 6-foot gem has scored seven goals for Brighton this season, with three coming in the Premier League and he already looks at ease on the senior stage.

Ferguson made his debut for the Republic of Ireland at the end of last year and having been called up for the recent European Championship qualifier against France, he went on to score his first international goal against Latvia in a friendly just a few days ago.

Evan Ferguson for Brighton

There is no doubt he is destined for the top and although it would take a few years for him to turn into someone who could lead the line for Liverpool on a regular basis, he could be the dream Firmino heir Klopp is looking for. He is young, powerful and importantly, scores goals.

Indeed, his natural goalscoring ability has led talkSPORT pundit Scott Minto to say he “looks like Michael Owen”.

Given the former Ballon d'Or winner's eye for the net and his red-hot pace during his early years, it is wonderful praise. Indeed, the idea of discovering both their heir to Owen and Firmino in one player is a salivating thought.

This is a player who even French superstar Kylian Mbappe has kept an eye on, with the World Cup winner declaring Ferguson as a “great striker” ahead of their recent clash. This will surely be a major confidence boost as the Irishman looks to continue his development.

His future is looking extremely bright and Klopp may well rue not making a move for him this summer.

Newcastle Must Sign £66m "Danger" To Partner Isak

Newcastle United's season has been unprecedented, as somehow Eddie Howe managed to carry their blistering form from the second half of last campaign and turn it into a genuine push for Champions League places.

Such has been their impressive work, amidst the disappointment of that EFL Cup final loss, the Magpies are now firmly in the driving seat to remain in that coveted third-placed spot which has been hotly-contested.

Should they achieve this unthinkable accomplishment, fast-tracking the development of a club still buoyed by their new ownership, it will likely widen their opportunities for player acquisition too. Previously, money was no object, but now with the promise of European football assured, suddenly Tyneside once again becomes an attractive proposition for Europe's top talent.

That would therefore explain the shift in focus to this summer, which promises to be an enthralling transfer window for a team that has already bolstered with intelligence.

The likes of Sven Botman and Bruno Guimaraes were immediate hits at St James' Park, but Alexander Isak has had to bide his time before truly showcasing his talents. His return to fitness has proved vital, and now the hulking forward cannot stop scoring.

That makes the links to Moussa Diaby all the more frightening, as adding another top-quality asset to this ever-improving outfit could not only push the team even further forward, but offer a fine creative presence to provide for the Swedish international.

Could Newcastle sign Moussa Diaby?

Having been noted among the favourites to acquire the Frenchman earlier in the week, this new development almost encourages them to act with haste among the growing list of suitors. They will likely still have to overcome the reported €75m (£66m) price tag that was touted in January too.

The interest this tricky wide man has drummed up hardly comes as a surprise given the consistency of the 23-year-old, who continues to thrive for Bayer Leverkusen.

Explosive with his turn of pace and possessing lightning-quick feet, these intangible qualities gave way to what has also been a fine goalscoring season for the former Paris Saint-Germain star. He boasts nine goals and seven assists in the Bundesliga, seeking to surpass his 13-goal and 12-assist tally from the season prior.

Such consistency across various campaigns only adds to the intrigue of this potential move, which Isak would likely endorse given the space and added chances someone like Diaby would command.

With five goals in his last five games, the club-record acquisition has thrived even when surrounded by the likes of Jacob Murphy and Sean Longstaff. Although both have impressed this season, to instead replace them with the talent being mentioned could see the 6 foot 4 finisher explode on Tyneside.

Newcastle United's Alexander Isak celebrating in action.

After all, his potential new teammate does average 1.9 key passes per game alongside the 46% dribble success rate that likely spurred journalist Julien Froment to laud him as someone who "creates gaps and danger as soon as he touches the ball," back during his time in the French capital.

With the future on Tyneside brighter than ever, and a calibre of players like Diaby potentially on the horizon too, Isak must be licking his lips at the prospect of this future superteam he will spearhead.

Arsenal Must Offload "Average" £55k-p/w Flop

Arsenal's unlikely charge for Premier League glory has been unprecedented, made even more impressive given the fact that last year they could not even achieve a top-four finish.

All it took was some shrewd business from Mikel Arteta, and suddenly the Gunners were back on top.

However, recent stumbles have allowed Manchester City to creep back into contention, with an eye on once again coming back from the dead to claim the title whilst still chasing a remarkable treble too.

Such unparalleled consistency across numerous competitions is owed to Pep Guardiola's genius, but also the endless pool of world-class talent at the Etihad.

The Cityzens absolutely only ever sell when they want to, given just how attractive a proposition they remain, and if their Spanish boss requires an upgrade, their untold riches often secure one.

mohamed-elneny-arsenal-goal

It is this unrelenting desire to continue improving that makes them such an unstoppable force, and one which very well could make history this season.

Whether the North London outfit see out their season with silverware or not, they have still merited praise. It is just clear that their shortcomings are born of two things: perhaps an unfamiliarity with their situation, given their last league title came in 2004, and a lack of quality squad depth.

Therefore, to solve the latter, the likes of Mohamed Elneny must be shipped off and improved upon to maintain their stay challenging at the pinnacle of English football.

Will Mohamed Elneny leave Arsenal soon?

Despite having signed a new one-year contract extension in February, the Egyptian has endured a campaign consisting of little football due to his various ailments.

Just five starts across all competitions are indicative of the thigh and knee problems that have plagued him, yet Arteta sought to tie him down for one last year.

Perhaps this could have been a ploy in order to sell on £8m-rated maestro this summer, who journalist Juan Arango once branded a "beast", and "dirty work personified".

The £55k-per-week stalwart has been at the Emirates for seven years now, with his 2016 signing allowing the 30-year-old to make 155 appearances for the Gunners.

However, no matter how endearing the midfielder might be, a lack of ample cover for the likes of Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey offers no help when seeking out the ultimate honours. The latter put in a particularly poor display in their recent collapse against West Ham United, yet there remained no feasible alternative to bring on.

The former FC Basel ace – even when fit – hardly offers much anyway.

From just five appearances in the league this season, the 5 foot 10 star has only managed a 6.60 average rating. Even back in 2016, journalist Robert Lusetich suggested that the midfielder was "average" anyway – with time having passed since this label, it is yet to be disproved.

In Manchester, if Jack Grealish is ever injured, then Phil Foden is ready to step up. If the young Englishman isn't available then Riyad Mahrez is next in line. Worst case scenario they could just deploy Julian Alvarez on that flank.

This is the kind of depth Arsenal are competing with, and unfortunately, if they seek to continue doing so, Elneny just will not cut it in the long run.

Celtic’s £17k-p/w Genius Can Run Riot vs Rangers

With Scottish champions Celtic now just one game away from wrapping up the league title, the main focus for Ange Postecoglou and his Bhoys will be on clinching the treble, with Scottish Cup glory still on the cards.

Amid the prospect of securing a domestic clean sweep, standing in the Parkhead outfit's way will be rivals Rangers, with the two sides set to go head to head in Sunday's semi-final showdown at Hampden Park.

With the title now seemingly out of reach, the Light Blues will be looking to make amends by sealing passage to the showpiece with victory tomorrow, with Michael Beale having already tasted defeat in the League Cup final clash back in February.

Heading into a truly crucial fixture for the respective Old Firm foes, the Hoops have been given a major boost following an injury update regarding the stricken trio of Liel Abada, Reo Hatate and Jota, with three men believed to be in contention to feature.

In the case of the latter man, the Portuguese dynamo has been absent for last two Scottish Premiership games, although the 24-year-old will no doubt be chomping at the bit to yet again run riot against the Ibrox outfit.

Will Jota start against Rangers?

Having been held to a 1-1 draw at home to Motherwell last weekend, Postecoglou's men could seemingly be in need of a fresh injection of quality in the form of Jota, with the former Benfica an undoubted threat having racked up 11 goals and ten assist in 29 league games so far this term.

The £17k-per-week ace had notably recorded five goal involvements in his three previous league games prior to this recent injury absence, including registering a goal and an assist in the 3-2 victory over the Gers earlier this month.

The fleet-footed "genius" – as hailed by pundit Ally McCoist – notably skipped around the advancing Allan McGregor to net what proved to be the decisive goal in that most recent derby outing.

Celtic's Jota

The Lisbon native was also previously integral in the 4-0 win over Rangers back in September, scoring the game's second goal with a sensational, dink from the angle.

That inventive effort had seen the wide man expertly latch onto Matt O'Riley's threaded pass after bursting away from the visiting defence, with the Gers' backline likely to dread coming up against the lively asset again this time around.

Having simply been a "revelation" in Glasgow since his arrival on an initial loan deal in the summer of 2021, as per pundit Alex McLeish, Jota could become an even greater cult figure by making the difference again tomorrow afternoon.

£240k-p/w Man Utd Star Slammed For FA Cup Celebration

BBC pundit Chris Sutton has slammed Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes for celebrating a miss in the penalty shootout before the Red Devils had won.

What's the latest on Bruno Fernandes and Man Utd?

Erik ten Hag and co managed to get through a goalless 120 minutes against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday to progress into the FA Cup final.

Meeting at Wembley on Sunday, both teams lacked a cutting edge as the game went the full distance and had to be decided by a shootout.

From there, ironically, both Man Utd and the Seagulls found their shooting boots as the first six penalties hit the back of the net.

However, Solly March failed to keep this trending as he fired his effort way over the crossbar, meaning Victor Lindelof just had to score to send United through.

It was at this moment, however, that Fernandes was seen celebrating his opponent's heartbreak on the sidelines as if his team had already won.

When talking about this moment on BBC Radio Show 606, Sutton called the behaviour a "disgrace" as he tore into the midfielder.

Indeed, he said (0:58): “I thought Brighton were the better team throughout. Manchester United showed great resilience, hung on in there, won on penalties.

"Felt for Solly March. I mean did you see Bruno though when he missed? I'm just not having that, all the celebrating.

"I mean celebrate when the winning kick goes in but I think that's really poor.”

He later added (6:18): "I thought that was a disgrace, honestly. You can be happy on the inside. Okay, I get that. Great, celebrate when the winning penalty goes in. I get that.

"I think it's in poor taste, honestly. I think it was really poor."

Does Bruno Fernandes need to improve his sportsmanship?

Ultimately, Fernandes was correct to be delighted as that was the pivotal moment, with Lindelof scoring his penalty to help set up a final against Manchester City in June.

However, had that effort not gone in, it certainly would have been an embarrassing moment for the £240k-p/w Man Utd star.

In the end, it's perhaps not surprising behaviour from Fernandes who has had his sportsmanship called into question already this season.

For instance, when his side were thumped 7-0 by Liverpool, Gary Neville slammed the player on Sky Sports for going to ground too easily.

bruno-fernandes-manchester-united-newcastle-argue-referee

He said (via TalkSport): “They have not been epitomised more than Bruno Fernandes, who has been embarrassing – a shambles – in this game.

“There was a VAR check for an elbow – it was on his chest. Oh, he holds his face. That’s embarrassing from Bruno Fernandes. It’s on his chest and he goes down. He’s so frustrating at times.”
