Tottenham Hotspur have now shortlisted an 'unidentified candidate' as chairman Daniel Levy looks to make his 12th appointment in 22 years, according to a report.

Who could Spurs appoint as manager?

Spurs are still well and truly on the search for a permanent manager after parting company with former boss Antonio Conte in late March, with there being no shortage of linked coaches.

Indeed, the likes of Julian Nagelsmann, Arne Slot, Brendan Rodgers and others have been mentioned as possible contenders for the vacancy with Ryan Mason taking interim charge until the end of the Premier League season.

Nagelsmann has been billed as a prime contender for the role at Tottenham, coming after his talks with London rivals Chelsea fell through recently, which could hand Spurs a free run at appointing him.

Slot, meanwhile, has seriously impressed at Feyenoord and is believed to be emerging as a serious contender for the Tottenham job.

Burnley's Vincent Kompany is also a prime candidate, with reports suggesting that Spurs have held talks with the Belgian over his appointment.

As per ESPN, there is now apparently a mystery new name in the frame, with this update claiming an 'unidentified candidate' has made his way onto Levy's shortlist.

Indeed, as Levy looks to make his 12th hire in 22 years as chairman, there is now an unnamed coach who could also succeed Conte at Tottenham.

Not much is said or hinted at who this could be, but he is apparently on Tottenham's list of contenders alongside the likes of Slot and Nagelsmann.

Who should Tottenham hire to replace Conte?

While it will be interesting to see which name may emerge as this mystery contender, we believe Nagelsmann is still the sure-fire choice to take over Tottenham.

Arguably one of the most exciting managers in world football, Nagelsmann already has a league title to his name at such a young age, and we believe he was rather unfairly sacked at Bayern.

The 35-year-old had led them to a Champions League quarter-final against Man City with the Bavarian giants fighting on all fronts at the time, making his dismissal a surprising one to say the least.

Nagelsmann has also been praised by elite coaches like Man City boss Pep Guardiola, who said this on the German way back in 2018:

“I’m really, really impressed [with Nagelsmann]. Taking over Hoffenheim in such a bad situation so young. He will have a lot of success in his career. He’s already at a good team in a top competition. It’s the first time we meet, but hopefully it won’t be the last.”

The team with the worst record in the history of English Twenty20 beat the team with the best as Derbyshire upset defending NatWest Blast champions Lancashire at Old Trafford.The Falcons swooped on a nine-wicket win with 32 balls to spare, chasing down 132 in this 19-over contest following an impressive bowling and fielding display, which included two wickets for overseas debutant Jimmy Neesham.Liam Livingstone and Arron Lilley were both run out going for two late in Lancashire’s modest 131 for 7 after rain delayed the start by 75 minutes.Neesham’s fellow New Zealander Hamish Rutherford then led the chase with a blistering unbeaten 71 off 40 balls with six fours and three sixes.Prior to this North Group opener, Derbyshire had only won a total of 39 matches in 13 seasons compared to Lancashire’s 84.Lancashire included former captain Tom Smith in their line-up following 13 months away from first-team action with a career threatening back injury and more recent hamstring problems. Rumoured West Ham transfer target Matteo Guendouzi may now be set to leave Marseille at the end of the season, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Do West Ham want Guendouzi?

The Frenchman enjoyed four years at Arsenal between 2018 and 2022, making 82 appearances for the Gunners, prior to joining Marseille last year. The £42,000-a-week midfielder has enjoyed a good season for the Ligue 1 giants, playing 30 times in the league and enjoying six outings in the Champions League.

In recent days, West Ham have been linked with a summer move for Guendouzi, with the Hammers eyeing him up as Declan Rice's replacement, should he leave the London Stadium this summer. Guendouzi's current Marseille deal runs until 2025, but it could be that he leaves well before that date.

Now, a new update has emerged regarding what the ex-Arsenal man's next step could be, amid plenty of interest from Premier League clubs.

Could Guendouzi leave Marseille?

Taking to Twitter, Romano confirmed that Guendouzi could depart Marseille once this season reaches its conclusion, acting as a boost to West Ham:

"Matteo Guendouzi could leave OM in the summer, it’s concrete possibility as he’s attracting interest in Premier League. Aston Villa are tracking him since long time — there are also other clubs keen on signing Guendouzi."

Guendouzi could be an excellent signing by the Hammers this season, having matured since his Arsenal games and become a more complete midfielder. Now 24, and with seven caps to his name for a star-studded France side, he could also be ready to find a new gear and he possesses similar attributes to Rice, enjoying an 88.2% pass completion rate in Ligue 1 and 88.6% in the Champions League.

On top of that, he has similar leadership skills, having a spikiness to his game and being hailed as a "great professional" by Arne Friedrich, and also "fantastic" by Gary Neville. He could see a return to the Premier League as the best possible challenge for him at this point in his career and he could be loved at West Ham with his tenacity and fight, even though he would be filling some big shoes, assuming Rice does move on to pastures new.

In an ideal world, the Hammers would actually have both Rice and Guendouzi alongside one another next season, but if the latter replacing the former is the best possible outcome, it could certainly help ease the blow of losing arguably their most important player.

Dhoni felt language wasn’t a barrier when he was asked if an Indian coach was desirable to ease bottlenecks in communication. One of the stipulations stated by the BCCI in its recruitment process for India’s head coach states: “It is desirable to communicate in Hindi and other regional Indian languages.””If you see the kind of players coming in, English, I don’t think, is a big barrier,” Dhoni said. “The other players in the team take the initiative, too. If someone doesn’t understand something, they ask ‘What does this mean?’ I feel it [knowledge of Hindi] can be [one of the] criteria, but it can’t be the only criteria.”More than Hindi, English, one who understands our culture and our upbringing, the one who understands these sort of things, he will always be better with us. In the past, too, these things have been important, and the coaches who have understood us better, it has made a difference at the ground level.”Dhoni said appointing the right candidate also depended on the options available, considering India’s hectic calendar. Will Chelsea sign a goalkeeper?

The Blues have endured a hapless season overall, languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table heading into the final few weeks of the campaign. Such a huge dropoff was never expected back in August, with results and performances simply nowhere near good enough.

There have been problems galore at Stamford Bridge in 2022/23, whether it be managers underperforming, midfielders being injured or attackers not being clinical enough, but the goalkeeping situation has also been a clear issue. Both Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy have flattered to deceive and it has become clear that a change is needed in that area of the pitch.

Mauricio Pochettino is set to be named the new Chelsea boss imminently and he will already be eyeing up new signings, ensuring a repeat of this season doesn't happen next time around. It looks as though he has already eyed up his potential new signing between the sticks, following a new update that he has green-lighted the arrival of a new number one.

Which 'keepers are being linked with Blues?

According to Football Insider's Pete O'Rourke, there are three 'keepers who the Blues see as strong options, with Martinez one of them, following a superb season for both Argentina and Aston Villa. It is claimed that "several other elite sides" are eyeing him up, though, and only a "huge bid" would be able to prise him away from Villa Park.

He isn't the only target, however, with Brentford stopper David Raya another name who is thrown into the hat, while Inter Milan hero Andre Onana is the third name mentioned.

While Kepa and Mendy can have good days at the office, it has become abundantly clear that neither are consistent enough to warrant being fist choice moving forward. For that reason, an upgrade simply has to arrive, with a top-class 'keeper essential for any top side.

While Martinez could potentially be hard to get, Chelsea should do all they can to snap him up, considering he has been hailed as "world-class" by Gary Neville, following such an outstanding and triumphant 2022 World Cup with Argentina. It may not be easy, though, which is why others should also be considered.

Raya could also be a strong option for Chelsea, with the 27-year-old possessing the ball-playing ability that Pochettino will surely want in his 'keeper, as well as being such a strong performer for Brentford in his all-round game. He has started all 36 of the Bees' league games this season and been described as "incredible" by Jurgen Klopp in the past, who added that he could "wear the number 10 shirt".

Tottenham Hotspur have held talks with Eintracht Frankfurt boss Oliver Glasner who is officially leaving his club this summer, according to reports.

Who could be the next Spurs manager?

Spurs have shortlisted a succession of managerial candidates in the last fortnight, but as their number of options shrink, supporters are getting a clearer idea of who could succeed Antonio Conte.

Bayer Leverkusen's Xabi Alonso and Burnley's Vincent Kompany, who were rumoured to be of interest to chairman Daniel Levy, will no longer be contending as both tacticians commit their long term futures.

Former Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann won't be getting the job as things stand with various reports ruling him out of the running.

As a result, Spurs are targeting far narrower options, with Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim, Brighton's Roberto De Zerbi and Slot among the primary contenders.

Glasner, who is confirmed to be departing Frankfurt a year before the expiry of his contract, has been linked with a move to north London and The Daily Mail have an update.

According to their information, whilst the likes of Slot and Barcelona boss Luis Enrique enter pole position, Spurs have also held talks with Glasner behind-the-scenes.

While his appointment could be viewed as an "underwhelming" one, it appears the 48-year-old is still in the frame, and Spurs hope to settle on preffered candidates in the next fortnight.

Who is Oliver Glasner?

The tactican, who won a Europa League title with Eintracht last season, could be a fairly solid option for Levy and co given he is soon to be a free agent.

Favouring the 3-4-2-1 formation, Spurs players would arguably grow accustomed to Glasner's style of play quickly, as it is not too dissimilar to that of Conte.

He will be readily-available for hire this summer which comes as a real pull for Spurs, with no club to stand in the way of Glasner's possible appointment.

Former Wolfsburg boss Niko Kovac gave a glowing endorsement on his counterpart last year, explaining to the Frankfurt Allgemeine Zeitung (via Bundesliga):

“He’s very structured, very well organised, meticulous, observes the opposition very closely and prepares the team very well for them,"“He doesn’t just let Eintracht run their boots off. He adjusts tactics, tries to simulate the opponent during the week in training. Oliver has transferred his ideas of football well to his team because he works methodically, because there’s no chopping and changing.”

It will be interesting to see if Glasner emerges as a prime contender, with Slot currently thought of as being the frontrunner.
