'I don't know what happened' – Jahanara after Bangladesh lost chasing 98

Brittle batting proved Bangladesh’s undoing again, leaving them facing an early exit from the World T20

ESPNcricinfo staff15-Nov-2018Jahanara Alam came to the Women’s World T20 hoping to blossom into an allrounder. Now the former Bangladesh captain is wondering if her team will stay in the tournament long enough for that to happen. Having picked up 3 for 21 – including a first-ball strike – to limit Sri Lanka to a mere 97, she still somehow ended up on the losing side.”This was a good total to chase, I think, and we even have a good batting side,” Jahanara said after the match. “But I don’t know what happened. I was very disappointed for us, definitely. We couldn’t click with the bat. But we’re still hoping, with our confidence next match we’ll work harder with the bat.”‘Special thanks to Udeshika’ – SL captain Atapattu

Only once in their T20I history have Sri Lanka defended a total lesser than the 97 they made against Bangladesh – and that was back in 2012. So it was understandable that the captain Chamari Atapattu was full of praise for her bowling attack.
“We tried for 120, but unfortunately we couldn’t score 120. When we lost a couple wickets early, we reset our goal to 100-110, but we ended at 97. Then we decided 100 is a good score. We trusted our bowlers. We have a good bowling attack, good spinners.”
Atapattu picked up three wickets herself, but she felt her team-mate and new-ball bowler Udeshikha Prabodhani was the match-winner.
“She [Prabodhani] got two early wickets, and the pressure was shifted on Bangladesh. And that’s how we could defend the total. So special thanks to Udeshika, she’s our No. 1 bowler.”

Bangladesh have chased bigger targets in T20Is before. But conditions in Gros Islet – where it has been raining quite heavily – proved rather difficult. And although their bowlers have been splendid – they restricted the defending champions West Indies to 106 earlier in the tournament – their batting continues to be brittle. The Asia Cup champions had the chance to make a big statement on Wednesday and it wasn’t like they weren’t used to the conditions in the Caribbean.”I did preparation very well, and before [we] came [to] Guyana, we had good practice facilities over in Grenada,” Jahanara said. “Over there we spent seven days, and we played three practice matches against Under-17 girls and boys. And there I went to bat at No. 3. And yes, in practice matches also I did well. So I had confidence and had set a big goal of becoming an allrounder again in this World T20. But it’s not happening. With only one match remaining, I don’t know what happened. But I will try my best next match with the bat definitely.”Jahanara Alam celebrates a wicket•IDI via Getty Images

Being bowled out for 72, with only three batsmen getting to double-figures, has dampened the team’s spirits, but Bangladesh are still holding out hope. “We had a goal that we don’t want to play any more qualifiers,” Jahanara said. “We had a goal also that we wanted to play semifinals, but we lost that after this game. But we still have a chance to increase our ranking if we win against South Africa. Who knows, something can happen, cricket is an unpredictable game.”Jahanara will be crucial to that considering her form as a new-ball bowler. She broke the stumps of Sri Lanka opener Yasoda Mendis first ball of the match and then knocked over two more batsmen in the final over of the innings. “After getting a wicket, I love to enjoy that moment. I forget everything, whatever is going on around me,” she said. “I love to get a wicket bowled, and when I get that, I just love it. The most emotional thing is when I’m not getting a wicket… I’m giving lots of runs off my bowling. That time I feel so sad. I feel like I couldn’t do anything for my team.”Now a centrally contracted player, Jahanara remembered a time when she didn’t even like the sport. “Actually I’ve been not forced by anyone, not been inspired by anyone to become a professional cricketer. Yes, I’m a professional cricketer, besides I’m doing my study, my graduation is not complete yet. Before I came into cricket, I used to play handball and volleyball. At that time my age was 11. Three years I played that, and when cricket started in my country, and I was offered to come to cricket. I said, okay, no problem, I can. I got full support from my family, and that is the main positive things in my life.”Before coming to cricket, I didn’t even watch a cricket match. I didn’t know any player, women’s or men’s. I didn’t like cricket because I felt the rules were very tough. I couldn’t remember what they were. After I came into cricket, I just loved it, and this is in my blood now. I can’t separate it from me.”The same might apply to the Bangladesh fans as well. “It is a cricket-crazy nation,” Jahanara said. “They like cricket very much, but the way we played, they are hoping too much from us. We should have won this match. I think they are disappointed, definitely. But I can say to them don’t lose hope on us. Please keep faith in us.”

The best footy scran at every Premier League stadium – ranked

A good matchday experience nowadays isn't just about the result, or the atmosphere. For many it includes the food and drink on offer at the stadium.

X account Footy Scran has skyrocketed in followers and impressions in recent years, with fans salivating at some of the dishes served around the country.

Gone are the days of making the choice between a meat pie and a tray of chips, now you'll likely have an array of options to choose from.

Football FanCast has taken a look at some of the best 'Footy Scran' served at Premier League stadiums, ranked on value for money.

It is important to note that some of the following dishes are served just outside of the ground. Every food item will be pictured below the text.

Without further ado, here are our rankings…

18 Emirates Stadium – Arsenal

Hot dog – £8

The North Londoners certainly serve a tasty-looking hotdog, although some hypercynics have critiqued the pool of cheese that dresses over much of it.

From a price point, £8 is pretty steep and you wouldn't be too hard-pressed to find a cheaper, more substantial dish elsewhere at the other Premier League grounds.

So for that reason, we've ranked it bottom.

Fish & chips with mushy peas – £11

Fish and chips are of course a British delicacy and who doesn't love a side of mushy peas? Whilst there are no complaints from a presentation standpoint, the £11 it'll set you back is pretty costly.

The Seagulls, quite controversially, don't sell chips inside the stadium so you'll have to locate the van situated just outside the Amex.

So rather than a half-time meal, fans will have to leave themselves time to queue at the food truck pre-match, which cynics will probably knock.

Anyhow, it looks well worth the wait…

Buffalo chicken & chips – £11

Whilst £11 is costly, in fairness to the Villa Park chefs, they've been generous with the portion sizes and it looks absolutely delicious.

Buffalo sauce has become a hugely popular condiment in this country of late, particularly with fried chicken, so the West Midlanders appear as though they're on to a winner, here.

Interestingly, Footy Scran ran a poll under their initial tweet, which gave their followers the option of; scran, no scran or scran but too expensive.

60.7% voted scran, 6% voted no scran and 33.4% voted scran but too expensive, which aligns with our thinking too. It's hard to rank the dish any higher due to the price.

15 Old Trafford – Manchester United

Hot dog – £6

Firstly, looking at the picture below, you're probably wondering why on earth there is an Xbox code on the side of the bun, well us too.

They're reportedly Xbox game passes, so if you are a gamer and enjoy a hot dog, perhaps you should get yourself down to Old Trafford.

Nevertheless, it's actually a pretty tasty-looking hotdog and at £6, it's a decent enough price, particularly with the bizarre but useful promo code.

14 City Ground – Nottingham Forest

Pizza dog – £7

Bare with us on this one, a pizza dog? Apparently, the City Ground serve a hotdog on a pizza…

Whilst we can't verify how it tastes, it looks palatable, but admittedly it won't be for everyone. Clearly, it's meant to be a bit of a unique quirk that entices people and for £7, you could do worse.

Footy Scran put up a poll beneath the tweet which saw 78.9% vote scran and 21.1% no scran, so it's obviously inviting for most people.

13 London Stadium – West Ham United

Pie & mash with liquor & chilli vinegar – £9

It won't be to everyone's liking, as the poll evinces, but the dish is a Cockney classic and it originates from the Docks of London.

For £9 you're getting a pretty substantial portion of mash there and a nice hearty pie, so we think the Hammers are offering decent value with this one, certainly for a football ground.

The food at stadiums will always come at a premium, so we've tried to bear that in mind with our rankings.

12 Bramall Lane – Sheffield United

Filled vegan beef & onion pie – £5

Well, Sheffield United's filled vegan beef and onion pie will definitely be controversial among meat lovers but don't knock it until you've tried it.

One X user confirmed that it's actually very tasty, so if that is the case, then you're probably getting decent value for £5, even if it is on the pricier side.

£6.60 it'll set you back for a pie and a cup of tea at Bramall Lane… could be worse.

11 Selhurst Park – Crystal Palace

Chicken burger – £6

Tell you what, Crystal Palace serve a gorgeous-looking chicken burger, that looks marvellous. If it tastes half as good as it looks, then £6 is super value.

It isn't actually served inside Selhurst Park, however, but rather at the fan zone which houses a capacity of 500 people, offering a range of different food and drink stalls.

There's also a big screen for match-goers' entertainment, so it sounds like a great spot to hang out.

Hats off to the Eagles.

10 Molineux Stadium – Wolves

Double bacon cheeseburger & chips – £10

You'll have to fork out a tenner, but it looks worth it.

Footy Scran posted a picture of Molineux's double bacon cheeseburger and chips that went viral, leaving many X users salivating.

The chips, in particular, received high praise, with one person commenting: "I’d pay £10 just for those chips. Unreal."

It is pretty costly but you'll be hard-pressed to find a better-looking bit of scran around the Premier League.

9 Stamford Bridge – Chelsea

Chicken strips & waffle fries with chilli mayo – £9.95

Just under a tenner for Chelsea's delicious-looking chicken strips and waffle fries with chilli mayo.

Again, it is rather pricey but it looks flavoursome, so we reckon you're getting decent value for money, particularly in the affluent area of West London.

82.6% voted for scran on the post's poll, which is why we've ranked it just ahead of Wolves' cheeseburger, which had a few harsh critics taking aim at the mayonnaise.

West Indies' shot selection 'wasn't good at all' – Kraigg Brathwaite

West Indies’ captain said his team encountered drier surfaces in Bangladesh than they had done in India, but refused to blame conditions for their performances

Mohammad Isam in Dhaka02-Dec-2018

West Indies’ batsmen weren’t “fully there mentally” on their tour of Bangladesh, according to their captain Kraigg Brathwaite. This, he said, was particularly the case on the second evening in Dhaka, when, in reply to Bangladesh’s first-innings total of 508, they slipped to 29 for 5.It was the first time in Test cricket that each of a side’s top five batsmen – in this case Brathwaite, Kieran Powell, Sunil Ambris, Roston Chase and Shai Hope – were out bowled to spinners. West Indies followed that up by losing 15 wickets in 71.4 overs on the third day, and lost by an innings and 184 runs after being made to follow on.”It was very disappointing,” Brathwaite said. “Our bowlers did a good job but the batting let us down. Some of the shots wasn’t the best. Most of the games we were 30-odd for three. It put the batting order under a lot of pressure. It wasn’t good for us at all. I can’t blame the wicket. Some of the shot selection wasn’t good at all, especially yesterday evening.”Test cricket is a mental game. Five-hundred on the board with the ball spinning on the first day. We could have had some talks. Mentally we probably weren’t there, especially yesterday when we lost five wickets quickly. We have to do better as batsmen, even myself. We can’t consistently be 30 for 3. We have to hold up our hand and do the job. Simple.”Brathwaite himself had his worst Test series, scoring only 22 runs in four innings. It followed up a woeful series in India, where he only made 26 runs in four innings last month.”I am very disappointed,” Brathwaite said. “I didn’t have a good series in India so I was looking to lead the batting. But it didn’t happen. I have to keep strong and try to lead the batting in the next series [against England in July].”Brathwaite said the pitches in Bangladesh were drier than those West Indies had played on in India, but he didn’t blame the conditions for his team’s performances.”I think the pitches here were a little drier but we didn’t carry out the shots at the right time. We just didn’t get anything together with the bat.”We planned for spin here. We had a lot of spin sessions in the nets. We probably weren’t 100%. Test cricket is never easy. You can’t blame fielding. It is tough, but we have to get better.”

Farke’s 8/10 Leeds whiz with fewer touches than Meslier tore Swansea to shreds

Leeds United returned to winning ways on Wednesday night as they ran out 3-1 winners against Swansea City at Elland Road in the Championship.

However, it was an imperfect start to the match as the away side snatched an early lead within two minutes thanks to Jamie Paterson's goal.

Daniel Farke's side reacted brilliantly and made it 1-1 through Joel Piroe just two minutes later before goals from Georgino Rutter and Dan James scored to secure all three points.

It was a much-needed response to the 1-1 draw with Rotherham last Friday night and is a result that lifts the club back up into third place.

Leeds were not at their blistering best and Swansea made them work hard for all three points. It took a sublime performance from French centre-forward Rutter to seal the win as the 21-year-old ace tore the Swans to shreds with his display.

Georgino Rutter's performance against Swansea in numbers

Interestingly, the former Hoffenheim man actually ended the match with fewer touches of the ball (36) than his goalkeeper Illan Meslier (49).

The Whites goalkeeper completed 40 of his 45 attempted passes but only made one save out of the two shots on target against him throughout the game.

Farke's side used the Frenchman to build attacks out from the back and that meant that he saw plenty of the ball as he looked to play out to Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk.

Rutter had fewer touches but there is no doubt that he had the biggest impact on the match as the talented whiz produced a match-winning performance at the top end of the pitch.

Leeds forward Georginio Rutter.

His first telling contribution came just before half time as he beautifully controlled a long pass from Ethan Ampadu and then used his strength to hold off a challenge before producing a fantastic finish to put Leeds 2-1 in front.

The ex-Bundesliga prospect then helped to round off the scoring as his pass to Dan James provided the Wales international with the opportunity he needed to find the back of the net.

In total, Rutter produced two key passes and created one 'big chance' in 70 minutes on the pitch to go along with three completed dribbles out of five attempts.

This helped the Leeds phenomenon to earn a fantastic Sofascore rating of 8.5, which was the highest score in the match on either side by 0.6.

Leeds forward Georgino Rutter.

It also led to LeedsLive reporter Beren Cross handing him a player rating of 8/10 in his post-match player ratings article, in which the journalist stated that Rutter was 'too hot to handle'.

Overall, it was another stunning display from the French magician as he continues to enjoy a brilliant first full season as a Whites player.

The talented youngster has hit the ground running at Championship level this season.

ByDan Emery Nov 28, 2023

He has now racked up four goals and seven assists in 16 Championship starts this season. The talented gem could also be frustrated with his teammates as they have not made the most of the 16 'big chances' that the magical dynamo has created for them so far.

Rutter was the difference for Leeds on Wednesday night with his goal, assist, and all-round display as the ace tore Swansea to shreds, despite having fewer touches than Meslier.

Journalist shares what he’s heard on Tottenham signing Kalvin Phillips

Tottenham Hotspur have recently been linked with a move for Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips, and a journalist has now delivered the chances of him joining in January.

Man City set to sell Phillips

Last summer, Phillips put pen to paper at the Etihad Stadium from Leeds United in what was, at the time, a move where he was expected to be an integral signing, but that hasn’t turned out to be the case at all considering how low down in the pecking order he is.

Pep Guardiola’s defensive midfielder has made zero starts and just four substitute appearances this season in the Premier League (WhoScored – Phillips statistics), so he’s yet failed to make any kind of positive impression on the manager for him not to be included more.

Tottenham looking to sign "exceptional" star who could solve major problem

Tottenham have endured some torrid luck in the last few weeks due to injury issues…

BySean Markus Clifford Dec 3, 2023

The England international still has another five years remaining on his deal with the top-flight champions (Man City contracts), but due to his lack of regular game time and minutes over the last year, he’s expected to move onto new pastures during the upcoming window.

According to Football Insider, Ange Postecoglou’s side, Newcastle, West Ham and Juventus are all interested in the 28-year-old who has been told that he is free to leave at the start of the new year, though an update has emerged on the likelihood of an approach being made in the early stages of 2024.

Spurs not prioritising Phillips

Taking to X, reporter Rudy Galetti confirmed that while Tottenham are keeping tabs on Phillips, they currently don’t view him as a priority target ahead of January. He wrote:

Newcastle are taking the first steps to sign Kalvin Phillips in Jan. NUFC consider the player a main target: with a suitable offer, Man City could let him go. Tottenham are still monitoring him, but to date is not a priority: first of all, THFC need a striker.”

Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

Daniel Levy should avoid swoop for Phillips

While Phillips, labelled as a "monster" of a player by former Crystal Palace maverick Yannick Bolasie, was a real talisman during his time at Leeds, Spurs will recognise that he hasn’t even been able to nail down a regular spot in the starting line-up at Man City, so Levy and Ange could be better off deciding against making a move for the underwhelming player in January.

Postecoglou’s target currently ranks as Guardiola’s 21st overall best-performing player out of 25 squad members (WhoScored – Man City statistics), showing how little of a positive impact he’s been able to make when handed the rare opportunity to showcase his talent.

The Sky Blues star has even failed to score or provide a single assist since signing on the dotted line (Transfermarkt – Phillips statistics). Furthermore, Phillips pockets £150k-per-week as it stands (Man City salaries), which would make him the fifth-highest earner on the books in N17 (Tottenham salaries), so for someone who hasn't performed at the same standard as the rest of the squad, we feel Tottenham should avoid this deal at all costs.

A segunda etapa começou semelhante à primeira. Logo aos dois minutos, o lateral Patryck acertou um chute forte e contou com uma falha do goleiro Murilo para balançar as redes. 2 a 0 São Paulo.
