Rangers are believed to be close to completing the signing of a "highly-rated" gem in the summer transfer window, according to journalist Tom Bogert.

Philippe Clement is eyeing new signings moving forward, with boyhood Gers supporter Paddy McNair linked with a move to Ibrox after confirming that he is leaving Middlesbrough. The former Manchester United centre-back is seen as a possible replacement for Leon Balogun, who is expected to move on and may have already played his last game for the club due to injury.

McNair isn't the only central defender who is seen as a good option for Rangers, however, with Birmingham City ace Dion Sanderson also backed to join them, having been relegated from the English Championship to League One last weekend.

The Gers are also thought to be working on making Oscar Cortes' loan move from Lens a permanent one this summer, while there is also Abdallah Sima's future to sort, who could come in from Brighton after impressing during a temporary spell.

Owen Dodgson is a left-back who was "really good" against Clement's side for Dundee – on loan from Burnley – earlier this season, and he is viewed as a potential replacement for Borna Barisic in the summer window, with the Croatian expected to move on.

Taking to X, Bogert claimed that Rangers are closing in on the signing of teenager Alexander Smith, with Premier League clubs also in the mix to sign him: "Rangers closing on signing highly-rated Scottish/United States dual-nat midfielder Alexander Smith to his first pro deal, I'm told.

"Nothing done yet. Still some MLS clubs pushing + Premier League clubs. Smith, turns 16 this summer, linked with Arsenal earlier this year."

While Smith clearly wouldn't be viewed as a key first-team addition this summer, it is hugely encouraging that Rangers look in a strong position to strike a deal to bring him to Ibrox.

The fact that he is wanted by Premier League clubs suggests that he is a player with a massive amount of potential, and planning for the long-term future is so important for the Gers, ensuring they continue on this current positive trajectory with Clement in charge.

At just 15, Smith has dual nationality with Scotland and the USA and has been capped for both countries at youth team level, as Bogert alludes to, and it could be that he secures a move to the Scottish Premiership giants and ends up maturing into a future Scotland international at Hampden Park.

The threat of Arsenal arguably stands out as the biggest issue for Rangers when it comes to snapping up the left-footed attacking midfielder, considering Mikel Arteta has built an exciting era with some young players starring at the Emirates, from Bukayo Saka to William Saliba. The PCB, ESPNcricinfo understands, is having internal discussions on the matter and exploring all options before chalking out a list of workable recommendations.If the pandemic settles down in few months’ time and the world takes a step towards normalcy, the PCB has an obligation to find a window for the PSL and November is understood to be a slot it is considering. But the board faces a challenge to regather all the stakeholders in one place for three days, including 16 overseas players.Before suspending the tournament, the PCB had attempted to shorten it by scrapping its four-match playoff stage and turning it into a two-day affair with a semi-final double-header followed by the final. Apart from the PSL, the final leg of Pakistan’s home series against Bangladesh, scheduled for early April, and the domestic one-day cup also stand indefinitely postponed, and the national team’s upcoming tour of the UK also faces a blurry future.According to the PSL’s playing conditions, it is understood that the team placed at the top of the league standings can be declared the winner if the tournament doesn’t find a window to hold its knockout matches. Apart from the cricketing prospect, there are commercial elements involved as well, so those remaining three games are very important for the sake of the PSL.”Meanwhile, the Kings’ owner Salman Iqbal felt the knockouts should be held just before or after an international series in the country. “I believe there is a window and the best time would be to have the remaining games this year, just before or after an international series in Pakistan,” Iqbal said. “That will save production cost as all the required equipment will already be in place.”

Players such as Elliot Anderson and Lewis Miley have broken into Eddie Howe’s first team and taken full advantage of the club’s injury situation – giving the boss a selection headache when all players are available at the start of next season.

Miley in particular has impressed, racking up 17 Premier League appearances over the last couple of months, while even scoring his first professional goal in the 3-0 win over Fulham.

Despite his tender age of just 18, he’s slotted straight into the Magpies squad, looking at home at St James’ Park despite his lack of experience at the top level.

He has the potential to star in the club’s midfield for many years to come, potentially being the pioneer in their efforts to challenge for a Premier League title again in the near future.

However, just a couple of years ago, many Newcastle supporters would’ve thought that one player could’ve been the future of the club, especially given his impact on his first-team debut, but he’s endured a huge drop in recent years, with Howe making the right decision by letting him leave Tyneside for pastures new.

The huge investment from the Saudi PIF undoubtedly restricted the youngster from any further first-team action, with the ace no longer up to the level required following the signings of players such as Bruno Guimaraes and Joe Willock.

He would leave the Magpies upon the expiration of his deal at the end of 2023/24, but agreed to an early termination in order for him to move to Toronto FC in the MLS.

Matty Longstaff’s market value in 2024

Nearly five years on from his Magpies debut, the now 24-year-old has suffered a dramatic drop in his market value, unsurprisingly given his downfall over the past couple of years.

According to Transfermarkt, Longstaff is now only valued at a measly £800k, a huge drop from his market high of £4.2m back in 2021.

His subsequent figure is now over ten times lower than Magpies outcast Matt Targett, who still boasts a market value of £8.5m, despite not featuring for Howe’s side since the 2-2 draw against West Ham United back in October 2023.

It’s unfortunate to see Longstaff’s huge drop since his debut for the club a handful of years ago – with the one-time wonderkid having real potential to be a long-term talent alongside his brother Sean in Newcastle’s midfield.

However, it’s good to see him have a new settled home, where hopefully he can recapture his form and rebuild in order to reach the potential a lot of supporters once thought he had on Tyneside.

– Os presidentes da Federação Paulista de Futebol, Reinaldo Carneiro Bastos, e do Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, Rodolfo Landim, informam que analisarão em conjunto com federações, clubes e advogados a decisão da Justiça do Rio de Janeiro que os nomeiam interventores da Confederação Brasileira de Futebol. Se aceitarem, Landim e Carneiro Bastos teriam como obrigação a “convocação do Colégio Eleitoral, composto pelas Federações e times da primeira divisão do campeonato brasileiro, para votarem a alteração estatutária no que diz respeito a redefinição das regras do estatuto de 2015.” Vale destacar que nenhum dos dois poderia concorrer na próxima eleição à presidência da CBF.
