Journalist provides worrying Largie Ramazani injury update for Leeds United

Leeds United have been dealt a major blow as Daniel Farke has confirmed that they will be missing a key man for the foreseeable future, adding to their hefty injury woes at Elland Road.

Leeds marching on together despite injury woes

Leeds may well have lost midfield duo Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev for much of the remainder of 2024, but they have continued their strong early season Championship form without the pair.

Club chiefs think £150k-p/w ace wants to join Leeds; could terminate deal

Currently 3rd, the Yorkshire side have moved to mitigate the impact of their absences through the signing of free agent Josuha Guilavogui, with the veteran midfielder signing a contract until the end of the season at Elland Road and with Farke confirming that he is ready to face Bristol City on Saturday lunchtime. However, a new injury has dented the good feeling in west Yorkshire.

Another serious injury confirmed for Leeds United

Now, Farke has delivered another hammer blow on the injury front, with one of his side’s brightest talents so far this season set for a prolonged spell on the sidelines. That comes in the form of Largie Ramazani, who limped off with an ankle injury 10 minutes after opening the scoring for Leeds in midweek, as they edged past Watford 2-1 to continue their strong early season form.

The Belgian, who was described as an “excellent” addition by Football Analyst Ben Mattinson, has managed three goals and one assist in eight Championship outings in his fledgling Leeds career, but that form will now need to be put on hold.

After the game, Farke was hopeful his injury wasn’t too bad: “I hope for not a bad injury, we deserve a bit of luck,” he told the media.

However, those hopes have been dashed as the German confirmed the bad news for his flying winger ahead of Leeds’ clash with Bristol City, revealing that he expects to be without Ramazani for at least a month.

LeedsLive journalist Beren Cross shared the worst case scenario from Farke’s press conference on X/Twitter: “Bad news with Ramazani. He twisted his ankle and it’s a serious ligament injury. No need for surgery, but out for four to six weeks. The best case is at the end of November. Could last to December depending on rehab.”

That will see the Belgian miss at least seven games for his new side, beginning with Bristol City on Saturday. Along Farke’s timeframe, he is certain to miss games up until they face Blackburn Rovers at the end of November, while both home ties against Derby County and Middlesbrough in the first 10 days of December could also come too soon for him.

The news comes as a major blow to the Yorkshire side, but they will be grateful that their upcoming fixtures are easier on paper than those they have already played this season, while they have been boosted by the returns of both Manor Solomon and Dan James from their own injuries, which provides Farke with a ready replacement for Ramazani.

The next Henderson: Sunderland have found a new £30m+ star in the making

Sunderland fans will be dreaming about a Premier League return already, despite the new Championship season still being in its infancy, with Regis Le Bris’ Black Cats currently taking the second tier by storm.

Le Bris has been the breath of fresh air Sunderland needed in the dug-out clearly, after the disastrous chop-and-change approach with managers last season, with the ex-Lorient boss steering the Wearside outfit to a mightily impressive nine wins from 12 in league action.

If Sunderland were to finally break out of the second tier come the end of this long and drawn-out campaign, this would be the first time the Black Cats would be in the big time since the 2016/17 season, when they finished rock bottom of the pile.

Le Bris will be hopeful that his team can keep up this stellar form across the full run of fixtures, knowing that the Black Cats would have to sell some of their top assets if promotion wasn’t achieved, with top clubs no doubt sniffing around.

Sunderland were in a similar boat when parting ways with Jordan Henderson back in 2011, as the homegrown talent longed for bigger and better things at Liverpool, away from staying put at his hometown employers.

dan-neil-jordan-henderson-liverpool-transfer-premier-league

Henderson's time at Sunderland

Henderson’s beginnings at the Stadium of Light are often forgotten about when you look back on his extensive career in England, with the one-time Sunderland youth prodigy going on to be a top performer for the Reds over many years.

Before he was thrust into the spotlight at Anfield, however, Henderson had to cut his teeth on Wearside to win himself a major move away, and he did just that when exploding into life in the men’s team after rising up the youth ranks.

Henderson would go on to accumulate 79 first team appearances for the Black Cats before spreading his wings to move onto Liverpool, picking up a promising five goals and 11 assists along the way.

The Reds must have known there was plenty more to come from the raw midfielder when chasing after his services, boldly picking up the young ace for £16m in 2011, after he had only completed two full Premier League seasons playing for Sunderland.

Of course, it’s well known now that this was a wise investment decision by Liverpool to gamble on Henderson to come good, as the former Reds captain enjoyed many great seasons at Anfield over his decade or so at the club.

He would amass a ridiculous 492 appearances for the Premier League giants in total, scoring 33 goals and picking up 59 assists, with his trophy collection going on to boast a top-flight title alongside a Champions League success.

The decorated midfielder could well even be up for a full circle moment soon, with recent transfer rumours linking him with a switch back to Sunderland to see out his esteemed playing days.

But, although Henderson is still held in high regard at the Stadium of Light and more so at Anfield, there is a star in Le Bris’ current camp that could be sold on for more than the £16m they managed to recoup for their homegrown talent 13 years ago, with the player in question also a promising midfield gem much like the 34-year-old once was.

Sunderland's next big star

Chris Rigg will likely make Sunderland a lot more profit than the £16m they managed to get out of Liverpool for Henderson, if everything goes according to plan for the next hotly-tipped youngster at the Wearside club.

It’s clear from his performances for the second-tier side this campaign alone that he has an exceptionally bright future in the game, with the teenager not fazed whatsoever by the demanding pressures of the Championship, and instead thriving off all the attention he’s receiving.

Always eager to make something happen for his promotion-chasing side, the energetic Sunderland number 11 has three goals and one assist next to his name from 12 league appearances to date, as Le Bris continues to pick the wide-eyed teen week in week out.

Henderson had to wait until he was 18 years of age before he made a lasting impression on the senior mix, whilst Rigg managed to score his first-ever league goal for the Black Cats when he was just the tender age of 16, before going on to cement a spot in the first team this campaign under his new French manager.

There will be a worry in the air already that it will be an inevitable losing battle for the Championship side to keep a firm grip on their starlet for the foreseeable, with Sunderland already aware that their top academy products can be snatched away from them in an instant when Henderson left.

Of course, the blow of losing Rigg could be softened somewhat by how much they’d likely win for him if he was to move on, with it being reported that he could be sold on for nearly double what Henderson exited for.

The potential fee Sunderland could get for Rigg

As per a fresh report by CaughtOffside, Sunderland will be demanding a fee in the region of £25m-£30m to even think about letting their tenacious midfielder leave anytime soon, amidst alleged interest from the likes of top-flight titans Chelsea and Manchester United.

If Sunderland were to get this hefty amount out of any potential suitor, Rigg could go down as the club’s highest-ever sale, and the best talent to ever come out of the academy arguably, even eclipsing the 34-year-old in the process.

It all depends on whether or not an onlooker deems Rigg worthy of surpassing Pickford’s £30m fee, with the 17-year-old potentially sold on for two times more than what Sunderland managed to get for Jack Clarke, who left just this summer for pastures new at Ipswich Town.

It’s not just Rigg in isolation who could win the Black Cats a pretty penny down the line, with high hopes above Jobe Bellingham’s head that he will also develop into a top-drawer talent worthy of winning his side some big bucks, as the ex-Birmingham City youngster is still only 19 years of age himself.

But, Rigg looks to be the next off the conveyer belt to become a stellar talent in the Premier League having blossomed into a sublime performer on Wearside, with the potential there for him to even rise up to the top-flight with his boyhood employers, to be another household name like Henderson.

Clement unleashes Hagi in predicted Rangers XI vs Motherwell

Glasgow Rangers head into their League Cup semi-final clash with a point to prove after a disappointing loss in midweek to Aberdeen.

The 2-1 setback means the Ibrox side now trails the Dons and Celtic by nine points in the race for the Premiership title, despite playing only ten games.

If Philippe Clement wasn’t already facing the wrath of a large section of the Ibrox support, then the defeat to Aberdeen could certainly be the final straw for the Belgian.

Anything other than a win against Motherwell at Hampden Park on Sunday, and his position could become untenable. The Gers will repeat the vicious cycle that has persisted since Steven Gerrard left in November 2021.

The pressure is on the 50-year-old to forget the midweek loss and use the semi-final as a catalyst for a more positive few weeks ahead.

There may be a few changes to the team and we at Football FanCast predict the starting XI Clement will unleash at the national stadium on Sunday…

1 GK – Jack Butland

Jack Butland

The only player in the squad who looks certain of his space in the lineup every week is Butland, although he did concede twice at Pittodrie.

In last year’s League Cup semifinal, he kept a clean sheet against Hearts as Rangers progressed to the final with a 3-0 victory.

A result similar to this could ease some of the pressure on Clement, although Butland will have to be at his best.

2 RB – James Tavernier

It isn’t just Clement who is facing the backlash from the supporters, as Tavernier also has to take responsibility for the performances.

The captain hasn’t been at his best this season. Indeed, a total of 36 goal contributions were registered throughout the 2023/24 season. This term? Only four have been recorded after 17 matches.

It looks like the end is nigh for the Englishman, although he arguably should have been sold in the summer. With 18 months left on his contract, it is highly unlikely the club will be able to rake in a decent fee for him now.

3 CB – Neraysho Kasanwirjo

Neraysho Kasanwirjo

The on-loan defender has played in a handful of positions during his short spell at the club so far, including right-back, left-back, and even in midfield.

On Wednesday evening, the Dutchman played on the left side of defence, but with the return of Jefte to the starting XI, Clement should unleash Kasanwirjo at centre-back.

Playing him in a set position will surely be a major benefit and this slot at the heart of the defence is where he has played the majority of his club football.

4 CB – Leon Balogun

Leon Balogun

The veteran is still arguably one of the club’s finest defenders, despite his advancing years.

Against the Dons, Balogun lost possession nine times while winning only four of his 12 total duels during the clash, hardly inspiring numbers heading into the weekend.

He will be desperate to make up for this poor performance against Motherwell, that’s for sure.

5 LB – Jefte

Jefte

The Brazilian was surprisingly rested against Aberdeen, but he will likely come back into the team for the game on Sunday.

In terms of summer recruitment, Jefte has been one of the more promising signings made by Clement, as his future in the game looks wonderful.

6 CM – Conor Barron

The former Aberdeen midfielder was subject to plenty of jeers every time he touched the ball in midweek, against his former club, but he handled it well.

Their loss is Rangers’ gain. Like Jefte, Barron is a player who has a splendid future in the game and he won’t be at the Light Blues for long. That’s a certainty.

Who will partner the Scot in the heart of the midfield?

7 CM – Nico Raskin

Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin

The Belgian has worked his way back into the starting XI recently, and he has been impressive, to say the least.

Against Aberdeen, he completed 87% of his passes, succeeded with five of his six dribble attempts, and won nine ground duels, emerging as one of the only players to get pass marks,’

He and Barron could dominate the midfield during the clash against Motherwell on Sunday. Will Clement continue with the pair? That’s the question.

8 RW – Ianis Hagi

Vaclav Cerny missed the clash against the Dons, and it remains to be seen whether he is available for Sunday. Ross McCausland started instead in midweek, but could the Belgian make a bold call?

Hagi could be unleashed on the right against the Steelmen. During Rangers title-winning season in 2020/21, Hagi played 28 games on the right wing, scoring five goals and grabbing five assists.

The Romanian is ready to start following his contract dispute earlier this season, and he could make all the difference.

9 AM – Mohamed Diomande

Mohamed Diomande

With Barron and Raskin starting alongside each other in the engine room, Diomande will be moved into the number ten role against Motherwell.

The Ivorian has all the required attributes to star in this position going forwards, and it is something Clement should consider for the long term.

10 LW – Nedim Bajrami

The Albanian has been forced to play on the left wing due to injuries to Rabbi Matondo and Oscar Cortes, but his quality has shone through.

Bajrami has already scored twice in nine games, and created seven ‘big chances’, and will be looking for another goal this weekend at Hampden, one which could send the Gers through to the final next month.

Half-centuries from Murshida Khatun and Fargana Hoque give Bangladesh series win

Murshida Khatun and Fargana Hoque struck unbeaten half-centuries as Bangladesh Women trounced Zimbabwe Women by nine wickets in the second ODI and took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.Set a target of 122, Murshida and Hoque added 115 for the second wicket – the second-highest stand for Bangladesh in ODIs – and wrapped up the chase in 24.3 overs.Earlier in the day, Zimbabwe opted to bat after winning the toss but didn’t have a great start as Jahanara Alam dismissed debutant Sharne Mayers on the first ball of the match. In the next over, Salma Khatun bowled Ashley Ndiraya, also for a duck, to leave Zimbabwe reeling at 2 for 2. Captian Mary-Anne Musonda tried to stabilise the innings but she too couldn’t last long and fell to Salma for 10.Modester Mupachikwa and Christabel Chatonzwa dragged the side past 50 during their 34-run stand for the fourth wicket but both batters fell within two runs of each other, leaving Zimbabwe 58 for 5.When Nahida Akter removed Precious Marange to make it 71 for 7, it started looking like the hosts will be bowled out for a sub-100 total for the second time in two games. Nyasha Gwanzura, though, hung around with the lower order, scoring an unbeaten 35 to ensure Zimbabwe reached 121. Along with Esther Mbofana, Gwanzura added 38 for the eighth wicket but despite her efforts Zimbabwe could last only 46.4 overs as Akter cleaned up the tail to finish with 3 for 30.Bangladesh lost Sharmin Akhter early in the chase but Murshida and Hoque kept the Zimbabwe bowlers at bay and moved closer to their individual half-centuries. Murshida was the first to reach the milestone, her maiden ODI fifty coming from 63 balls. Hoque was on 49 off 67 balls when she hit Mbofana for four to bring up her seventh fifty as well as seal the game.
