It’s been quite the season for Sheffield United’s Billy Sharp. He’s one of the top goal scorers in the Championship and stands a fantastic chance of leading his side to promotion to the Premier League.

A few weeks ago he was named in the Championship Team of the Year, as well as being one of three men to be nominated for the Player of the Season award too.

But he’s picked up another accolade, winning the Moment of the Season at the EFL awards for when the Blade reached a record-breaking 220th English league goal this term.

Praise from Sheffield United fans came flooding in as one individual was quick to call the 33-year-old a legend. Others claimed it was well deserved whilst one supporter suggested it was the only moment the award could go to.

The Blades are currently second in the Championship as the promotion race continues to ebb and flow.

Sharp has contributed 23 goals to his team’s efforts in 2018/19.

Manchester United fans on Twitter have been busy discussing the Independent’s story on Declan Rice, which suggests that the Red Devils are willing to break the bank in order to sign the West Ham man.

Rice only recently signed a new five-and-a-half year deal back in December, that saw his £3,000-a-week salary increase to £30,000, although United are prepared to dwarf that figure completely with their offer.

تحدث ديوجو جوتا لاعب فريق ليفربول على الفوز الذي حققوه في مباراة الأمس، أمام شيفيلد يونايتد، في بطولة الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز.

واستضاف الأنفيلد مباراة الفريقين في الجولة السادسة، حيث فاز ليفربول بهدفين مقابل هدف.

وكان التعادل الإيجابي مسيطرًا على المباراة قبل أن يسجل جوتا هدف فوز ليفربول، في الدقيقة 66.

وقال جوتا، في تصريحات نشرها الموقع الرسمي للنادي: “كان الأمر صعبًا حقًا بالنسبة لنا، كنا نعلم مدى أهمية العودة إلى تحقيق الفوز في البريميرليج بعد مباراتين بلا فوز (الهزيمة أمام أستون فيلا 7-2، والتعادل مع إيفرتون 2-2)، وكانت مواجهة شيفيلد صعبة حقًا”.

وأضاف: “كان علينا العودة من بعيد، ولذلك أرى في النهاية أننا حققنا ثلاث نقاط مهمة بالنسبة لنا، علمنا في الشوط الثاني إنه يتعين علينا أن نقدم كل ما لدينا من أجل تسجيل الهدف الثاني”.

وواصل: “كان لدينا فرص، وأحرزنا هدف اُلغي (هدف محمد صلاح)، ولكن كان علينا الإيمان بأنفسنا حتى النهاية، ولحسن حظنا حصلنا على النقاط كاملة في النهاية”.

واستكمل: “كما قلت من قبل عندما سجلت هدفي الأول، أتمنى أن تكون هذه المدرجات ممتلئة لجعل الموقف أكثر تميزًا، لكنني أعتقد في النهاية أن أهم شيء أن هدفي كان مهمًا لتحقيق الفوز، لذلك أنا سعيد جدًا”.

ويلتقي ليفربول مع نظيره ميدتييلاند يوم الثلاثاء القادم، في ثاني جولات دور مجموعات دوري أبطال أوروبا.

وعن ذلك، قال جوتا: “إنه جدول المباريات، أعتقد أن هذا هو السبب في أننا بحاجة إلى أن يحافظ الجميع على لياقتهم، ونريد أن يبذل الجميع قصارى جهده، أعتقد أننا نلعب مباراة تلو الأخرى لكننا نعرف مدى صعوبة الأمر لذا من المهم بالنسبة لنا الحصول على النقاط”.

Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish produced another moment of magic in his side’s 2-1 win on Wednesday night which didn’t go unnoticed by the following Manchester United fans on Twitter, who urged their club to move for the 23-year-old. But are they right?

Should United sign him?

For far too long United have been guilty of allowing other top six clubs such as Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur snap up the best British talent from Championship clubs, and it must be their turn in the summer.

Investing in big-name players such as Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez has hardly worked out well for them in recent years, and perhaps now is the time for a change of direction with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the helm permanently.

Grealish is skilful, creative and capable of scoring sublime goals, and given how he has matured in the last few years it is difficult to see him not being a favourite with the Old Trafford crowd.

The midfielder showed just how good he is – and that he is far too good to remain in the Championship if Villa stay there this term – with his goal against Rotherham in midweek.

He used his excellent close control on the left flank to eventually break towards the penalty area, where he waited until exactly the right moment before releasing Ahmed Elmohamady on the right – the Egyptian then laid the ball back to Grealish and he finished with aplomb.

Where would he fit in?

The main issue is that he and Pogba would want the same spot in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 system – the most advanced midfielder in the middle.

But given the France international still isn’t performing on a consistent basis, you do begin to wonder whether he actually deserves to command such a crucial role at Old Trafford.

Grealish has the right mentality – something it can often be argued Pogba lacks – and the quality to make a difference in the final third for United, backed up by the fact that he has averaged 2.3 key passes and 1.8 dribbles per league game this term, as per WhoScored.

On top of that he is the most fouled player in the division by a distance and probably wouldn’t cost the earth, especially if Dean Smith fails to lead Villa to promotion.

Ralph Hasenhuttl has brought some excitement back to Southampton since he replaced Mark Hughes as manager.

Under the Austrian, the Saints have started to play a more entertaining brand of football again, much to the delight of supporters.

That, however, is not the only thing Hasenhuttl has introduced, according to central defender Jannik Vestergaard.

The Breakdown

“We are a lot more organised and everyone knows what to do,” the Denmark international was quoted as saying by the Daily Echo.

“That gives you confidence when you do better and when you suddenly win games and you make it tough for even very good opponents – top-six teams.

“I think just by that he [Hasenhuttl] has given us some confidence. We’ve come a long way also mentally. I don’t think we are as vulnerable as we may have been earlier on in the season.”

A lot has been said about how well Southampton have pressed and attacked under Hasenhuttl — and rightly so.

In those departments, they look a completely different outfit to the one Hughes was managing.

But as Vestergaard has highlighted, they have also come a long way defensively. Even in games against the Premier League top six, the Saints have managed to defend well with their solid display in a 0-0 draw against Chelsea epitomising that.

When you consider the fact that Hasenhuttl is also now getting a lot from his midfield as well, it is some job the former RB Leipzig manager is ultimately doing at St. Mary’s.

A good transfer window in the summer, and the Saints could be in for a really bright 2019/20 season under their new boss.

وأضاف: “قدم لوكوموتيف مباراة جيدة للغاية، فشلنا في استغلال فرصة أو فرصتين واستقبلنا بعض الهجمات على مرمانا”.

وأتم تصريحاته: “نحن سعداء بهذا الفوز، وعلينا الآن التركيز في مباراتنا المقبلة (أمام كولن في الدوري الألماني)”.

تحدث سامي قمصان المدرب المساعد بالجهاز الفني للنادي الأهلي عن موقف لاعبي الفريق المعارين من العودة بالموسم الجديد، واقتراب صالح جمعة من المشاركة في المباريات.

وكان الأهلي قد نجح في حسم بطولة الدوري لموسم 2019-2020 قبل انتهاء المنافسات بنحو 6 أسابيع، للمرة الـ42 في تاريخه.

وقال قمصان في تصريحات تلفزيونية بفضائية “النهار” عبر برنامج “البريمو”: “هذه أطول بطولة دوري في تاريخ الكرة المصرية، ونهدي الدوري للاعب من أبناء النادي الأهلي ومنتخب مصر وهو مؤمن زكريا وهذا أقل شىء نستطيع عمله”.

وأردف: “تفاجئنا بتأجيل نهائي دوري أبطال إفريقيا، وكنا وصلنا لحالة فنية كبيرة جدًا”.

وعن صانع لعب الفريق صالح جمعة، تابع قمصان: “الموضوع له اتجاهين الأول جانب نفسي وهو أن تعطي داوفع للاعبين، والثاني خاص باللاعب نفسه”.

واستكمل: “صالح بدأ يستجيب لأن هذا هو الأهم، أن يكون لديه الإصرار للعودة مرة أخرى مثل سابق عهده، موهبة لا يختلف عليها أحد، ولكن لو لم تساعد نفسك أعتقد ستكون الأمور صعبة”.

واستطرد: “صالح جمعة شاهدناه اليوم ويفقد الوزن أكثر من الفترة الماضية، واستطاع أن يؤدي أداءً جيدًا، ويتبقي أمامنا كأس مصر وبطولة دوري أبطال إفريقيا، هذه الفترة كفيلة إذا كان له إصرار على العودة مرة أخرى سيكون لديه فرصة كبيرة”.

Marcelo Bielsa has been praised this weekend for his showing of sportsmanship after he allowed Aston Villa to equalise against his side having judged they had scored unlawfully.

Mateusz Klich netted the opener at Elland Road on Sunday despite an injury to Jonathan Kodjia which had the majority of players unfocussed. After the goal, Bielsa instructed his team to allow Villa to walk through the whole team and equalise.

Irrelevant result

If the Whites would have won rather than drawing on Sunday it really wouldn’t have meant much in the grand scheme of things.

Sheffield United’s goal difference is far superior to Leeds’ so even if Bielsa’s side had won, the Blades’ promotion would have been delayed by only a week barring a 12-goal swing.

Leeds are now confined to the playoffs where they may potentially meet their opposition from this weekend in the final.

Removing ammunition

Playoff finals are often about who wants it more. The two teams are equally matched and whoever turns up on the day usually ends up the victor.

If the Argentine hadn’t allowed Villa to equalise straight away, then Dean Smith would have no problem getting his team up for it if they were to face off against the Whites at Wembley.

The scenes after the goal showed how aggrieved every Villa player was and if that sort of intensity was carried through to the playoff final, then there would be no doubt as to which team would be more motivated on the day.

Smith would have the easiest team talk in history. The former Brentford boss could tell his players to go out and get revenge and give his players that extra incentive needed to put in a top performance.

Instead Bielsa’s decision to give the visitors a goal calmed everyone down and put out the fire that was in the bellies of the Villa players.

Smith will no longer be able to use this injustice as ammunition to provoke his players which could, in turn, affect their performance in the final.
