This season has been a troubling one for Wolves; one that’s more or less been a product of Nuno Santo’s desire for further numbers in attack.

On paper, he was right to urge his side to be more attacking. That being said, moving from a system that’s been so successful for the best part of three years was a brave move.

In switching to a four-man defence, it didn’t provide them with much success, something testified by their position in the table of 12th place.

They have since reverted to a three-man defence again, and it’s providing better results.

That being said, their display at Villa Park on Saturday evening lacked a cutting edge. Plenty of chances went begging as the likes of Conor Coady and Romain Saiss spurned opportunities that looked easier to score.

Yet, the burden of scoring goals should not fall on the shoulders of Wolves’ defenders as it did versus Manchester City. Instead, they need more from their front line.

Adama Traore has been the very definition of enigmatic this term. In 2019/20, he was one of the most feared players in the top-flight. The Spaniard dazzled on his way to providing 13 goal contributions and amassing a truly ridiculous five dribbles per game.

Yet, this term, very much like Wolves, he has been disappointing. Traore hasn’t scored or assisted and his threat was incredibly minimal against Villa on Saturday.

The Midlands rivals played out a 0-0 draw with their wing sensation failing to have a positive impact on proceedings. Villa’s defenders got out to him quickly and prevented Traore from ever getting up to speed.

Indeed, Wolves reporter Tim Spiers claimed during the game that the forward “offered nowt” and the statistics provide plenty of evidence.

The 25-year-old was playing as an inverted winger on the left-hand side on this occasion but despite completing four dribbles, his end product deserted him. The Spain international failed to have a single shot at goal while all four of his crosses into the area evaded an Old Gold shirt.

A player like Traore will naturally lose the ball more often than not, but surrendering it on 15 occasions, as he did on Saturday, was incredibly poor when he offered very little elsewhere.

In total, the attacker played just 23 passes, one fewer than Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez. His tally was only worse than Willian Jose and Rui Patricio’s in the Wolves team.

If anything summed up Traore’s poor campaign, this was it. He struggled to get out of second gear and provided very little goal threat. In short, he let his manager down.

Manchester United may have found the perfect replacement for Anthony Martial in the form of Bayer Leverkusen’s Leon Bailey.

According to reports, the Red Devils have already had discussions with the Jamaican wideman’s representatives as recently as the January transfer window.

With current United forward Martial having been urged to leave Old Trafford, this summer is the perfect time for the club to move for Bailey.

Since joining Bayer Leverkusen, the former Genk man has become one of the most exciting forward players in the Bundesliga.

He is currently in the midst of his most productive campaign in Germany having hit ten goals and provided nine assists in all competitions.

Despite not quite having the goalscoring ability of Martial yet, with the Jamaican having scored 0.24 goals per game for Leverkusen compared to the Frenchman’s 0.3 for United, he has been in far better form throughout 2020/21.

According to WhoScored, Bailey has been averaging 2.3 shots per game, 1.5 key passes, 2.2 dribbles. He also keeps the ball extremely well, being dispossessed on average just once every game.

These numbers far outweigh Martial. The winger, signed from AS Monaco, averages just 1.9 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per game, whilst he’s been relinquishing possession at a rate 1.7 times per game.

With Bailey two years Martial’s junior, his numbers are surely set to improve even more as he finds greater consistency. Even Bayer boss Peter Bosz has seen Bailey’s improvement, stating that he is “getting better with every game”.

Another benefit of the switch would also see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the Red Devils potentially earn some cash.

At the time of writing, Martial is rated at £49.5m. Whilst they might not be able to demand quite as large a fee, it is still far larger than Bailey’s rating of just £31.5m.

Despite Martial earning plenty of praise in the Manchester derby win, Bailey remains a far more promising prospect and should certainly be a transfer target for the Red Devils this summer.

Em 2016 no Brasil já são 5 as mortes causadas por confrontos de torcedores organizados: 2 no Ceará, 1 no Rio de Janeiro, 1 no Rio Grande do Norte e 1 em São Paulo. Mais uma morte anunciada. Há uma guerra declarada entre a Mancha e a Gaviões e não é de hoje. As redes sociais contam tudo, inclusive anunciaram que ontem (domingo) seria um dia de “medir força”, em diversos pontos da cidade e mesmo fora dela. O jogo marcado pras 16h começou antes das 10 da manhã, quando delinquentes armados de paus, ferros, rojões, armas brancas e de fogo barbarizaram o domingo paulista.

Dezenas de feridos, gente hospitalizada (um em estado grave) e um cadáver absolutamente inocente, de um idoso ainda não identificado, que caminhava, parece, em direção a igreja, ritual que fazia todos os domingos de manhã, serenamente, segundo relatos de vizinhos. Inaceitável brutalidade! Até quando? As causas dessa violência têm que ser atacadas duramente pela ação repressiva das polícias, contra essas facções de vândalos infiltrados nas torcidas uniformizadas.

A repressão é fundamental, mas não é suficiente. É necessário um trabalho coordenado de prevenção, de inteligência, entre as diversas instituições da polícia e da justiça, para evitar o problema e “cortar o mal pela raiz”. Faz-se necessário também um trabalho de longo prazo, de reeducação, para mudar a cultura das organizadas de baixo pra cima: parcerias e campanhas de pacificação envolvendo os ídolos dos times, com os setores pacíficos, que são a grande maioria das 435 agremiações cadastradas na Anatorg, Associação Nacional das Torcidas Organizadas.

Destas, 15% foram reincidentes em atos de violência, em 2014 e 2015, o que mostra que há uma imensa massa de torcedores, com os quais se pode conversar, planejar e investir na cultura desses coletivos, a fim de isolar, controlar e punir severamente os transgressores. Culturas de alegorias, festas, cânticos, criatividade, espontaneidade e outras ações sociais feitas por eles, ao longo do ano. Auditoria nas contas das torcidas e responsabilização dos clubes também são iniciativas benvindas.

Os violentos e homicidas são perigosos e estão conectados com o chamado crime organizado e o tráfico de drogas, mas ainda assim são minorias, que não podem criminalizar as multidões de adeptos apaixonados pelo futebol.

Punição-prevenção-educação, eis a estratégia de um plano nacional, prioridade de governo e de Estado e obrigação constitucional, o qual tem que partir de Brasília para alcançar todo o país. Nos dois últimos anos, somente 3% de todos os crimes ocorridos no universo do futebol foram punidos até as últimas consequências. Esta lamentável impunidade, infelizmente, não é um caso isolado no Brasil, é mais regra do que exceção. Basta de descaso e de enxugar gelo. A nossa sociedade exige e o futebol merece.

Former Premier League striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has recently urged Leeds to make a move for Crystal Palace left-back Patrick van Aanholt.

The Whites have recently been linked with a move for Van Aanholt, whose future seems to be up in the air. Agbonlahor has now given his opinion about a possible Leeds move for the Dutchman.

Leeds target described as ‘Mr. Reliable’

Agbonlahor was recently in conversation with Football Insider and and he talked about Leeds’ links with a move for Van Aanholt. He described the left-back to be ‘Mr. Reliable’ and someone who’s very good going forward too.

The former Aston Villa man believes that he ‘would be a great signing’ for the Whites and not just that, but any club in the Premier League would love to have him the first-team.

Agbonlahor said: “He’s played a lot of Premier League games. He’s Mr Reliable and he’s very good going forward.

“I think that would be a great signing and it’s something that Leeds should pursue. Any club in the Premier League, not the top six or seven, but anyone below would love to have him. He’s a great left-back.”

The report from the Mirror has stated that Van Aanholt is now looking for the next move of his career as his contract ticks down and he’s one of the left-back options that the Whites are looking at.

Van Aanholt could indeed be a great move for Leeds

The 30-year-old Van Aanholt has loads of experience of playing in the Premier League, having played for Palace, Sunderland and even Chelsea. He has 21 Premier League goals to his name, along with 15 assists.

Ezgjan Alioski’s current contract at Elland Road runs out in the summer transfer window, meaning that Leeds could lose a left-back option in the next few months. Because of that, it is easy to see why Marcelo Bielsa wants another left-back in the side.

Van Aanholt’s Premier League experience suggests that he can certainly do a job for Leeds, even if only for the short-term while youngsters like Leif Davis break through and develop.

O Ceará ficou com um jogador a mais em campo a partir dos 17 minutos, quando o árbitro expulsou o volante Somália, que já tinha amarelo. Após falta de Boaventura em Bill, Somália seguiu no lance, batendo na bola para longe. Alisson Sidnei Furtado (TO) optou por expulsar o jogador do CRB, entendendo que ele impediu que o Ceará cobrasse a falta com agilidade. O Ceará até pressionou, mas não teve precisão para buscar a virada. O Vozão é, com 36 pontos, o terceiro na tabela. O CRB fecha o G4 com 34.

Loads of Everton fans have been left to fume at the decision to by Gareth Southgate to pick Eric Dier ahead of Michael Keane for England for their qualifiers.

This comes after former West Ham United and England U21 central defender Anton Ferdinand claimed to talkSPORT that the decision was ‘ridiculous’.

Keane has averaged more interceptions and has a higher pass success rate than Dier in the Premier League so far in the 2020/21 term, while also boasting a much bigger threat from set pieces with three goals and one assist compared to no goal contributions for the Tottenham Hotspur man (Whoscored).

While Dier does have the added versatility of being able to play in the centre of midfield as well as in the defence, Keane has arguably had a better season, and is no doubt unlucky to miss out on the squad.
