Agora, a equipe quer aproveitar o péssimo momento do rival e somar três pontos.

Assim como o rival, o Guarani terá mudanças no time titular.

Dhoni suspended for one ODI due to slow over-rate

MS Dhoni has been suspended for one ODI and India fined for the team’s second over-rate breach in ODIs in less than a year

MS Dhoni has been suspended for one ODI and India fined for the team’s second over-rate breach in ODIs in less than a year. India were found to be two overs short during their 110-run defeat against Australia in Brisbane, after time allowances were taken into consideration. Match referee Andy Pycroft also fined Dhoni 40% of his match fee and the team’s other players were fined 20% each. This was India’s second over-rate breach this tour. Dhoni was suspended from the Adelaide Test earlier this year for a slow over-rate in the previous game in Perth, where India had gone in with four fast bowlers. Today, at the Gabba, the visitors played four seamers again. Ravindra Jadeja’s left-arm spin was not employed in the game, prompted, as Dhoni said, by the presence of several left-handers in the Australian side, though it could have improved the over-rate if used. The latest suspension is a consequence of two “minor” over-rate offences in ODIs within a year- the first one being during the 2011 World Cup final in Mumbai. The grounds for the decision to take such an action against any guilty captain were laid at the ICC’s annual conference in Hong Kong last year where harsher penalties were called for against teams failing to meet their over-rate targets.”At its meeting in June 2011 in Hong Kong, the ICC Executive Board had discussed the issue of slow over-rates and accepted the recommendation of the ICC Cricket Committee that a captain of an international side should be suspended for one match if his side is guilty of two minor over-rate offences in the same format over a 12-month period,” the ICC said.A ‘Minor Over-Rate Offence’ is when a side is found to be upto two overs short in an ODI or a T20I and upto five overs short in a Test. The on-field umpires Steve Davies and Billy Bowden, third umpire Bruce Oxenford and fourth umpire Paul Reiffel laid the charge, to which Dhoni plead guilty and accepted the suspension. “Dhoni also acknowledged that he had been kept informed of the position regarding over-rates on a regular basis throughout the match and therefore accepted the decision,” the ICC release stated.Dhoni was suspended for slow over-rates more than years ago as well. He had to sit out of two ODIs during a home series against Sri Lanka, as a result of which Virender Sehwag had to take over. India will now take on Sri Lanka on February 21 without Dhoni, their most consistent batsman this series with scores of 44*, 58* and 56 in his last three appearances.

Jamaica and Barbados will contest the final of the Regional Four-Day Competition after winning their semi-finals by large margins

ESPNcricinfo staff02-Apr-2012Jamaica entered the finals of the Regional Four-Day Competition by beating Guyana by 133 runs in three days at Sabina Park. They took control of the game after the first day, on which they were dismissed for 196 after choosing to bat. Donovan Pagon and Tamar Lambert scored half-centuries but Jamaica collapsed from 131 for 3, losing seven wickets for 65 runs. Three Guyana spinners – Veerasammy Permaul, Devendra Bishoo and Narsingh Deonarine – took three wickets each.Guyana, however, were shot out for 126 in their first innings, conceding a lead of 70. Shivnarine Chanderpaul, unbeaten on 47, was the only batsman to pass 20. Nikita Miller claimed 3 for 16 for Jamaica, while David Bernard took 3 for 35. Jamaica could not improve on their first-innings performance in their second, though, getting dismissed for 189. Bishoo took 5 for 62, and Permaul added three more to his match haul. Xavier Marshall top scored for Jamaica this time with 59. Their lead, however, ensured Guyana would have to make the highest total of the match to reach the finals.Chasing 260, Guyana were dismissed for 126 once again. Miller took 4 for 28, and Odean Brown had figures of 3 for 42 for Jamaica, ensuring the match did not enter the fourth day.Sulieman Benn took 9 for 63 in the match to help bowl Barbados into the final with a 227-run victory against Trinidad & Tobago at Queen’s Park Oval. Having chosen to bat, Barbados made only 223 in the first innings. Most of the top-order batsmen got starts but nobody carried on, and Jonathan Carter’s 47 was the top score. Ravi Rampaul and Kavesh Kantasingh took four wickets each for T&T.The Barbados bowlers, however, gave their side a huge lead by dismissing T&T for 84. Benn bowled with the new ball and took 5 for 28, while Carlos Brathwaite had figures of 4 for 12. T&T were 63 for 3 at one stage and then lost seven wickets for 21 runs.Barbados made 216 in their second innings, setting a target of 356. Carter once again top scored with 52, and Brathwaite followed his success with the ball by making an unbeaten 45. Shannon Gabriel was T&T’s best bowler, taking 5 for 78.The target was always likely to be out of T&T’s reach and they fell massively short. They collapsed once again, from 79 for 2, and were dismissed for 128. Benn took 4 for 35 in this innings; Javon Scantlebury-Searles contributed 3 for 22.

Harmison a willing convert to Kent

Kent’s winter recruit Ben Harmison has arrived to put down roots in the garden of England and prove a point to his former paymasters at Durham

Kent’s winter recruit Ben Harmison has arrived to put down roots in the garden of England and prove a point to his former paymasters at Durham. At the age of 26, Harmison needed more cricket than Durham were able to offer so, after making only 40 first-class appearances in six years, a parting of the ways was mutually beneficial. When Kent offered a top-four batting berth and the chance to have a bowl from time to time, Harmison – whose brother Steve is best mates with Kent captain Rob Key – jumped at the chance.”There are seven new faces at Kent who bring different cultures and personalities and that has all helped to make for a new vibrancy in the dressing room and lift the players who were already here,” said Harmison.”Speaking to the backroom staff, they told me they can already see a difference to the atmosphere about the place and that reflects in performances on the field.”In explaining his departure from Chester-le-Street, Harmison said: “If I’m honest I should probably have left two years earlier than I did. A few people said I should have looked for opportunities earlier, but I was in the team at the time.”It wasn’t really until last year when things really changed because I picked up an injury and wasn’t bowling much. All of a sudden I wasn’t playing and the writing was on the wall.”They’d also signed a lot of players on long-term contracts and big money at Durham so the finances were stretched. Personally I worry that the wage bill may end up killing the club, and the fact that they had to make cuts somewhere was certainly a factor in me leaving along with four others.”For me the move can only be a good thing. I’m having a fresh start down here, I scored two hundreds in pre-season, I’m also fitter and starting to bowl again.”I know it’s a big challenge ahead but I never shy away from challenges and I’m hugely looking forward to making regular contributions. I see myself as a genuine allrounder and hope to get some more overs under my belt soon and then push on for the rest of the season.”Harmison admits other counties were interested in signing him, but Kent’s early approach, well before Christmas, convinced him that becoming a Geordie Kentish man was the right move to make. Not that there was much satisfaction to be had on the third day of Kent’s Championship match with Yorkshire at Canterbury. Only 53 balls were possible, with Kent advancing from their overnight total of 316 for 6 to 350 for 9. Kent’s West Indies international Brendan Nash consolidated his second-day century and was unbeaten on 132 when the heavens opened at 12.40pm.

Gambhir continues Kolkata's success

Kolkata Knight Riders continued their impressive run, picking up a hard-fought win over the defending champions with an all-round performance

Kolkata Knight Riders continued their impressive run, picking up a hard-fought win over the defending champions with an all-round performance that included a disciplined effort with the ball and another Gautam Gambhir-anchored batting display. Each of his four half-centuries have contributed to wins for his team and yet again, on a slow track, Gambhir guided the chase with determination. With the ball keeping low and not coming on well enough, Chennai Super Kings managed a par score but it was to be insufficient, with their opponents, largely, ensuring the mistakes made by batsmen in the first innings were not repeated. The game went in to the last over but the Knight Riders were on top for 18 overs in the chase. Gambhir approached the target positively, dispatching the bad balls with ease, not taking any undue risks, knowing that there was ammunition down the order even if some momentum was lost in the quest for stability. He lost Brendon McCullum early, but, after two boundaries through the off side, settled down to build a steady stand of 70 with Jacques Kallis. While there was a regular flow of singles, Gambhir and Kallis did indulge in some power-play, keeping the required-rate well in control. Kallis slog-swept R Ashwin over square leg, Gambhir charged out and launched Shadab Jakati over long-on and the Super Kings bowlers didn’t help their case with a spate of wides, eight of them in all. Extras aside, the pair ran 32 singles and two twos, using their feet well, playing the ball late, using the sweep, cuts and dabs in a period of busy accumulation. The required-rate rose when Kallis fell, and the equation was 48 off 36, but Dwayne Bravo gave width, and then dropped too short, to be punished for consecutive fours by Gambhir on either side of the pitch. With 16 needed off 12, the Knight Riders were still in control but the fall of Gambhir, trapped in front while trying to swing Bravo over midwicket, caused a scare in the visitors’ camp. Debabrata Das put that to temporary rest, flicking his first ball past short fine for four and then erased it completely following another failure from Yusuf Pathan, smashing Ashwin over midwicket for four to finish the game. That role in the finish prompted Gambhir to hand over his Man-of-the-Match award to Das.Greater maturity in batting and a superior performance in the field were two significant factors that separated the teams. While Super Kings missed out on chances to run-out Gambhir and Kallis, Brett Lee was excellent in catching Michael Hussey short early after the hosts chose to bat. Suresh Raina and Dwayne Bravo had helped Super Kings recover with a 42-run stand, one that should have continued in its steady vein for a few more overs. But the two couldn’t wait to infuse the innings with more urgency. Both fell to Kallis, who mixed up his pace well; a slower one was holed out to long-on by Bravo and, in Kallis’ next over, Raina’s slog only went as far as midwicket. The spin pair of Iqbal Abdulla and Sunil Narine, together with Rajat Bhatia’s dibbly-dobblies, kept further check on Super Kings, doing their bit to produce a boundary-drought of 47 deliveries. Stepping up proved a difficult job but even though Super Kings took 21 off the final two overs, it wasn’t enough to withstand a controlled response from Knight Riders.
