Tottenham fans slam the man who rejected them Dani Ceballos after Arsenal draw

[ad_pod ]

Some Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter have slammed the man who rejected them in the summer, Dani Ceballos, following his latest display for arch-rivals Arsenal.

Sky Sports reported during the summer that Spurs were interested in a permanent deal for the Spaniard and were in talks with Real Madrid, but that the 23-year-old preferred a move to their north London neighbours instead – something he indeed opted for.

They ended up signing a similar player in Giovani Lo Celso on loan on deadline day, and it appears Spurs supporters aren’t too impressed with what they saw from Ceballos amid his latest outing against Watford on Sunday.

He may have chalked up two assists in the success against Burnley last month, but he hasn’t scored or assisted in any of his other four Premier League appearances to date, including against Quique Sanchez Flores’ men where he picked up a rating of just 6.16 from WhoScored.

Tottenham fans took to the popular social media platform to slam the Spain international for his performance at Vicarage Road, with one fan saying he isn’t fit to lace Harry Winks’ boots, and another saying they’d “rather have Lo Celso”.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

Tottenham’s Ryan Sessegnon suffers cruel setback ahead of Olympiacos clash

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Injury News series, which considers the impact of the latest updates on players’ fitness

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed on Tuesday that summer addition Ryan Sessegnon will miss their Champions League clash with Olympiacos on Monday night having suffered a setback in his comeback from a hamstring injury, as his wait to make his debut goes on.

What’s the word, then?

Well, Spurs signed the 19-year-old in a deal that could eventually total £30m last month, but he is yet to be involved for the north London outfit having picked up an injury while on international duty with the England U21s during the summer.

Football London reported that it was thought the teenager would be back in first-team training during the international break ahead of the trip to Greece, but instead the club say the former Fulham man will be absent having reported irritation with his previous hamstring issue.

Cruel blow

With Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino openly admitting he is ready to rotate his team for this European clash – and with Danny Rose left behind in England – this looked to be the perfect opportunity for the left-sided Sessegnon to be named in the matchday squad for the first time, and potentially get on the pitch to make his debut.

However, just as he looked to be making good progress the irritation he has suffered with his hamstring means that now can’t happen, and his wait to make his bow for Spurs goes on.

Given the competition for places all over the pitch for the north London outfit, the 19-year-old must be desperate to get out there and show Pochettino what he can do – this latest setback only prolongs his chance to do exactly that and ultimately leaves the youngster down the pecking order.

Tottenham star Christian Eriksen produces unacceptable display vs Olympiacos

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

Tottenham Hotspur’s result against Olympiacos on Wednesday night was frustrating to say the least, and there was no worse player on the pitch than Christian Eriksen.

With less than a year remaining on his contract and with no intention to extend his stay with Spurs as things stand, as shown by Marca saying he has rejected all of Daniel Levy’s offers, Mauricio Pochettino has been left with the decision over whether he regularly uses the Denmark international in the starting XI or not this season.

So far in 2019/20 he has largely favoured naming the man who cost £11.5m in 2013 in the team, and it was the case again in Athens on Wednesday.

The Argentine manager would have been looking towards the 27-year-old to provide that spark in the final third for the visitors, and show his quality on the ball.

However, he did anything but and according to SofaScore, he lost possession on a remarkable 22 occasions throughout his 90 minutes on the pitch – yes, we don’t know how he wasn’t subbed off either.

The Dane also failed to have a single shot or make any successful dribbles against the Greek club, while he won just three of the 10 duels he faced on the evening.

It was no surprise then that Football London handed him a 3/10 rating for his performance, because it was an unacceptable one from a man who appears to think he deserves to be playing for a Real Madrid, Barcelona or Juventus.

Perhaps it was simply an off-day for Eriksen like it was for many of his teammates in a blue shirt, or maybe there was more to it given reports suggest he wants that new challenge.

Whatever the case this performance gives Pochettino plenty to think about ahead of the trip to Leicester City on Saturday, where he must decide whether to stick or twist when it comes to selecting the Denmark international.

Let’s just say it certainly wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if the 27-year-old was dropped to the substitutes at the King Power Stadium.

Wolves need to keep an eye out for nearly-man Danny Loader vs Reading

[ad_pod ]

Wolves take a much-needed break from the Premier League later tonight as they welcome Championship outfit Reading to Molineux for a third-round Carabao Cup clash.

It is the first time this season that the west Midlands club are competing in the tournament having endured a rigorous Europa League qualifying campaign as those involved across Europe get to enter at this stage.

Nuno Santo’s side are yet to pick up a domestic win as they sit second-bottom on four points.

Reading are living precariously themselves, occupying 20th in the Championship, just two points off the relegation zone.

There is one player amongst their ranks that Wolves fans ought to keep an eye on throughout the match if he features.

Danny Loader may be making his debut at Molineux at last, but not in the old gold colours as it could well have been just a few months ago.

On deadline day, the young striker made the trip up the M40 as Wolves tried to strike a deal for him – but that fell through at the eleventh hour meaning the 19-year-old was sent back down to Berkshire.

It remains to be seen whether the club will revisit the deal in January but a good performance against the side he was once linked with could have them thinking again.

Loader has been restricted to just 71 Championship minutes since his club’s last-minute U-turn but did start in this very competition, one where he also made his professional debut in aged only 16.

The striker has been absent through illness in recent weeks, though, if he’s fit he should play some part as Royals manager Jose Gomes likes to rotate his squad in this tournament.

It is the starlet’s record at youth level which clearly had Wolves keen, especially as Fosun are wanting to improve their academy setup tenfold.

For the U23 squad, he has netted 15 goals in 35 appearances while he’s been just as prolific at international level playing for England’s Young Lions.

He was part of the U17 side that won the World Cup in 2017 and has scored 14 times in 42 appearances, per Transfermakt.

The Carabao Cup doesn’t tend to throw out too many narratives but this could be one worth keeping a close eye on.

Everton fans lose patience with Marco Silva

Marco Silva oversaw yet another Everton defeat on Saturday.

The Toffees lost 1-0 to Burnley at Turf Moor, with Jeff Hendrick’s goal proving decisive.

It means that Everton have now gone four games without a win in the Premier League.

With the international break now looming, the Toffees face a make-or-break decision over the next few weeks.

Indeed, many fans would like to see Silva sacked and replaced before a run of fixtures that sees the club play West Ham United, Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, along with Watford in the Carabao Cup.

Silva, of course, has been with the Toffees since 2018 and guided the club to an eighth-placed finish last season.

However, supporters appear to be losing patience with the former Watford boss and have urged the club to make a managerial change.

Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk provides injury update on Mo Salah

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Injury News series, which considers the impact of the latest updates on players’ fitness.

Liverpool’s Mo Salah may overcome a knock he picked up against Leicester to be fit in time for the visit to Manchester United, with two weeks off thanks to the international break.

What’s the latest?

Teammate Virgil van Dijk told Sky Sports, as reported by The Express, that the Egyptian’s injury isn’t a major concern, even though it led to him being substituted in the 92nd minute against Leicester.

Despite his absence, the Reds managed to find a way to breakdown the Foxes in the remaining minutes to maintain their 100% league record, but Jurgen Klopp and the squad will no doubt be hoping that Salah is available moving forward.

Re-live the moment Sadio Mane robbed Leicester City of a point at Anfield through the eyes of the Foxes fans in the video below…

Van Dijk said: “I think he should be not too bad. The good thing he has plenty of time to recover.

“He’ll probably get time to recover as well. So I’m not concerned that he’s not going to be ready for United away.”

Blessing in disguise

Salah missing for any period of time would be a big blow to Liverpool.

Although the recent return of the previously injured Divock Origi is a bonus for the Reds, his goalscoring record does not compare to the 27-year-old and Klopp will need his best players available if he is to continue the current winning streak.

Manchester United may be in poor form with only nine points from eight league games but they often raise their game against the Anfield outfit and have only lost to them at Old Trafford five times in 23 matches since the start of the Millennium.

Last year was an example of how the Red Devils could frustrate Liverpool, earning a 0-0 draw which derailed their title efforts – and that was with Salah in the side.

As van Dijk says, a two-week period of rest should do the 27-year-old the world of good and his injury could prove to be a silver lining, as it avoids him travelling to Botswana to play for Egypt, thus preventing the build-up of fatigue.

That could allow him to come back fit and firing, and an in-form Salah is a danger to any Premier League side.

Sheffield Wednesday’s Liam Palmer strengthens position change bid

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

Scotland ended a run of four straight defeats on Sunday afternoon as they thrashed San Marino 6-0 at a rain-soaked Hampden Park.

Aston Villa’s John McGinn netted his first-ever career hat-trick while three others also got on the scoresheet.

It means Steve Clarke’s team now face the task of trying to secure third place in the group in order to gain one last shot at qualifying for Euro 2020 as their defeat to Russia firmly ended any hopes of automatically doing so.

There are just two qualifiers left for Scotland as they face Cyprus, who currently hold that sought-after third spot, and then Kazakhstan.

Despite it only being against San Marino, who place last in FIFA’s world rankings, the result should offer up some encouragement considering the barrage of defeats suffered in the lead up to Sunday’s match.

Sheffield Wednesday had a player involved with Liam Palmer featuring the full 90 minutes, playing back in his more natural right-back position.

Last week, Football FanCast highlighted the reasons why the 28-year-old should play there for his domestic club as Moses Odubajo continues to underperform in the role.

This latest glimpse at right-back strengthens the case for him to do so and should leave Garry Monk with a dilemma ahead of next weekend.

Per SofaScore, Palmer recorded four tackles and three key passes, proving to be a vital cog defensively and in the buildup to any attack.

His showing last time out against Russia was particularly poor as he was part of a defensive that shipped four versus the Russians. Wednesday’s key man lost possession 13 times and was dribbled past on one occasion.

But here, the long-serving Owls man managed one clearance, one successful dribble, and a passing accuracy of 86%, also per SofaScore, to round off a better afternoon.

Now as previously mentioned, San Marino are no barometer of top quality – let alone that of the Championship – but you can only beat what is in front of you and Palmer has done the job asked of him.

If anything, he showed that one bad game hasn’t thrown him off completely and he has the ability to bounce back.

The 28-year-old has played 152 of his 232 career matches at right-back for the south Yorkshire club according to Transfermarkt’s recorded figures.

Leeds United wished happy birthday by Hollywood star and fan Russell Crowe

Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe is apparently a huge Leeds United fan.Crowe is the narrator of ‘Take Us Home,’ Amazon’s latest sporting documentary retelling the Premier League promotion quest during Marcelo Bielsa’s first season in charge of Leeds. Speaking to Radio 5 Live in 2015, the New Zealand-born actor explained the origins of his love for a club based in West Yorkshire on the other side of the world.”I used to come home from sport in the afternoon, me and my brother, and watch Match of the Day. We’re talking about a period of time in Australia when we had very few TV channels.”Watch Leeds United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Back in 2015, in the midst of the Massimo Cellino years, which we won’t ponder on for any longer than necessary, Crowe even teased a possible takeover to help ease his side’s pain.

Unfortunately, it never materialised. Crowe has, however, kept close tabs on the club’s quest to get back into the Premier League, and has been quoted saying:

“I know when it comes to sport that it’s not necessarily about money. It’s about culture, and I have learned a lot in nine years [in charge of the Rabbitohs]. And it would give me nothing but pleasure to see that white army marching on together, getting back into the Premiership and being back where they should be.”

Former stars like Jermaine Beckford, Luciano Becchio, Tony Yeboah, Brian Deane, Danny Mills, Rod Wallace, Paul Robinson, Peter Haddock, Chris Whyte and Neil Sullivan all swarmed upon West Yorkshire on Thursday night to celebrate 100 years of the Championship side.

From Robert Snodgrass to Chris Kamara, Michael Bridges, Dominic Matteo and Lee Bowyer, others each paid homage online with their favourite memories from being at the club, too.

Liverpool’s James Milner proved once more than he can do just about anything

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

It was another good night for Liverpool in the Champions League as they beat Genk 4-1 at the Luminus Arena.

Following the disappointment of being held to a 1-1 draw against Manchester United on Sunday, the Reds were eager to get back to winning ways. However, they were without a victory away from home in the group stages of the Champions League since 2017.

Genk had a poor start to their European campaign as they had only picked up one win out of their first two games. Liverpool had to capitalise on that, and they did.

Watch a Liverpool fan discover the internet and get a nasty surprise in the video below…

The manager corrected the errors of his side’s ways on their European travels with a brace from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and goals from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. After Klopp made a handful of changes, one player was asked to deputise out of position once more and he proved that he can just about do anything on a football pitch.

James Milner has been one of the best signings of the Premier League era after his free transfer from Manchester City in 2015 due to his resilience, as well as his ability to adapt to different situations and, more importantly, his versatility.

Filling in at right-back for Trent Alexander-Arnold, Milner put in a solid display against the reigning Belgian champions and did everything that would have been asked of him by the manager.

From a defensive point of view, he completed three interceptions and was not dribbled past once by an opposing player. However, he only won one ground duel out of five that he attempted.

His passing provided the Merseyside club with a different dimension that was required, particularly in the second half when they were finding their momentum.

He completed three accurate long balls out of six attempted and two crosses into dangerous areas. As a result of his proactiveness and his eagerness to get the ball to the front men, he accumulated a pass success rate of 85%.

The former England international’s ability to get himself up and down the wing at the age of 33 is inspired. Milner has put himself in contention to start against Spurs on Sunday and has given Klopp the sort of headache that all managers want.
